Jay was becoming bored after a month of leisure at the classy hotel with nothing really important to do, so when the call came he was somehow glad. Glad to get some work given to him and not so glad because the work was to fly his boss's over bearing wife back home. He really disliked her so much that he tried as much as possible to avoid her but then no other person was flying were them so it meant he would be with her alone. Hopefully, she would be asleep throughout the trip.
He went over the weather charts as he waited for Sydney, he was not happy with the forming clouds but he figured he could fly over most of them, but mostly because he did not want to tell her that they couldn't fly, he knew her temperament so he kept it to himself. After a long wait, he saw a car pull up at the entrance, when the doors opened her noticed that she was fashionably dressed, a little bit too much makeup, he thought. She held out her hand and he noticed the deep red nail polish, he took her hand and escorted her to the plane.
The take off was smooth but he was still a bit nervous because of the weather chart so he remained in his seat without switching to auto pilot, it was quite calm in the plane, maybe she had fallen asleep. He kept flying, getting closer to the thick clouds which had suddenly built into a thunderstorm, there was no way to avoid them now, he tried to fly steady but the plane shook violently and then the engine was hit, it burst open into flames, the plane slowly began falling out of the sky. His years of piloting kept him from being hysterical but Sydney wasn't at all calm, he left the cockpit with an emergency kit and ran to where she was, she was yelling and screaming at him but the noise didn't let him make out what she was saying. Ignoring her, he reached out for another kit and with much difficulty, forced the life jacket then strapped the parachute on her before doing the same for himself.
He yanked the door of the plane open and a blast of cold, wet wind rushed in, he grabbed her as she kept hitting and scratching him, raining curses on him, he yelled out some instructions for her before pushing her out, after a few seconds he jumped out. He watched her as she fell below him before her parachute deployed, after a while his own deployed and a wind knocked him, blinding him for a while and pushing him towards another direction, when he opened his eyes she was gone, asides from the clouds and lightening bolt, he saw nothing. He looked below and the ground was now much closer, he blacked out before his feet touched down.
When he came to, he felt someone poking him, his eyes opened wearily and he saw a group of dark skinned men surrounding him, he tried to stand but fell back down, his ankles and wrists were bound. They spoke in a language he did not understand before four men hooked his wrists and ankles to a thick branch then carried him on their shoulders. By the time they reached their village, his neck and back were already aching, they dumped him carelessly on an open patch on the ground and he passed out from the pain.
Jay looked around and saw that he was placed in the centre of a shaded clearing on the ground. He was surrounded by a frail wall made of sticks held together by ropes and without a roof, he wasn't tied anymore and he could see outside from the spaces in-between the sticks, two men stepped into the space, one had a bow and arrow which he kept constantly pointed to Jay while the other carried a wooden bowl and a wooden slab. The slab had strips of meat on it that had recently been roasted on a fire and seasoned, the aroma was mouth watering and Jay realized that he was indeed very hungry. In the bowl was a kind of soup with large chunks of meat in it, as soon as the men stepped out, he grabbed the food. The meat strips were quite chewy, but full of flavour and soup was also tasty. After the meal, laid down and sleep soon enveloped him.
Five days he had been here, but the people didn't seem much of a threat, they fed him three times a day and actually brought a straw mat for him, he wasn't afraid anymore but he also knew he could stay here for much longer, somehow he had forgotten all about Sydney, he would have to find her and if these people had her, maybe they could let them go. He made friends with the man who brought him food and although neither could understand what the other was saying, they kinda made a bond and he always looking forward to his next meal, more because he enjoyed the chewy meat.
The children were constantly around the roofless hut, staring at him and pointing, they obviously had never seen a white man before, then they would giggle and run away when he looked in their direction. His new friend stepped in with his last meal for the day as the sun was already setting, he placed them on the ground and smiled at Jay then he left, shutting the door behind him. Jay finished off the meat strips and picked up the bowl, he drank some of the soup before picking out the meat, the first piece was slender and he turned it around. All the food he had eaten unsettled in his stomach and rose up to his mouth, he dropped the bowl and the piece of meat and screamed.
The red fingernail was pointing at him accusingly.
He couldn’t take his eyes off it. He couldn’t stop screaming…
Omg it was sydney-- maybe they got irritated with her too and decided to deal with her
