02:00 hours. The Execution

The explosion was deafening, the enemy had known of the attack. The plan was crumbling even before it was executed.

"Back! Back!" He yelled orders to his squard. The building to his left was badly affected by the explosion, it couldn't take anymore. He saw it but maybe not in time. It fell heavily on his men.

"Cover!" He yelled desperately before his vision was blocked by the heavy cloud of dust and debris.

There was a ringing in his ears and pain in his eyes when it settled. Lying on his stomach, he inched forward, barely seeing what was in front of him he could only feel with his hands.

He felt the ground. Metal. Block. A helmet. Hands.

Hands?

He blinked hard, his vision slowly returning. He squeezed the hand and pulled. It came off from under the heavy block. Decapitated. It was Joan's. He groaned, fighting back the tears. He couldn't let this happen. Not again.

18:00 hours - 8 hours till execution.

"8 hours till we move out. I guess we all saddle up and get prepared, eh boys?" The commander's voice boomed as he entered the bunker, a smile played on his rather hard face. The plan was foolproof - attack before the enemy would wake. It was an easy victory. Too easy.

"Got something on your mind Johny boy?" Joan teased. She looked John straight in the eyes. Seems he was unaware he had been starring at her. The other soldiers laughed, tapping him lightly but John kept a straight face. He couldn't pick a fight with Joan. He had seen it, it wouldn't work. He could "accidentally" injure her? She would be grounded to the base rather than fly with them on the mission but he couldn't bring himself to hurt her.

They shared a sinful passion, one that was not advised amongst soldiers on the battle field. One that was not allowed. He searched for a way to stop her from going, he had already watched her die three times. He tried manipulating time and events to prevent her death but it always ended the same - that huge block crushing her.

"Joan you can't go." It came out without him willing it to. Everyone paused and looked at him. He maned up, stood straight and repeated himself.

"And you can stop me?" She was amused. John almost groaned. Now was not the time to be stubborn girl!

The commander came in front of him and stared at him hard enough to melt though him.

"Why?"

'cos I've seen her die! I've seen all of them die! I took back time to try and save them! Three times now! Don't you get it?!'

Of course they didn't get it. He couldn't tell them that, they would send him to the asylum as a traumatized soldier. 'Hey I'm John. I manipulate time to my convenience.' what an intro!

He resorted to lying.

"Why?" The commander asked

"Because..." He locked eyes with Joan, pleading with his eyes. "...cos she's pregnant."

There was an uproar in the bunker. Joan charged at him and swung a fist, it caught him in the temple. He staggered back avoiding her gaze. The other soldiers held her in place as she fought to grab John. She might hate him now but he just saved her life. She would be sent to the clinic for a check-up.

If it still didn't work he would have to manipulate time again. Maybe go back to when she first joined his squard and avoid that. She would be better off with patrol duties.
