3 hooks… to start off the issue other sovereign country not only China but also Malaysia and Vietnam are claiming the two Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Philippines. The controversial issue of the country awaken the sleeping patriotism in the heart of our countrymen wherein Filipinos fought to secure the territorial seas; thus controversy leads the public to reunite as a whole and fight for the rights of their beloved land. The two territorial seas that we are defending in the West Philippine Sea are the Scarborough Shoal (Panatag Island) and the Spratlys (Pag-asa Island) but these two island that has been mentioned are not being capable of sustaining habitations or economic life on it’s own particularly the 45-hectare Itu Aba the largest island on the Spratlys also the Scarborough Shoal because the fact of it is jut a piece of rock.
In addition, according to the Arbitral Tribunal ruled that none of the geoloic features (rocks and island) in the Spratlys is capable of “human habitation or economic life of [its] own” so as to be entitled to a 200-NM EEZ or an extended continental shelf. Many map has been presented in the tribunal court but there is one most important map. The 1734 map is the official map of the Philippines since it was made upon the instruction by King Philip V of Spain in 1734 to Governor-General Fernando Valdes Tamon, who commisioned the Jesuit priest Pedro Murillo Velarde to make the map.
In conclusion, the public are hoping that the Philippines especially the governmentwill fight for its territory and win the two Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of our country at all times we the public must stay vigilant to secure our territories not only by land but also the other territorial dispute. The public also believed that the government should stand for it because as a matter of fact they have the power to do so to depend and the government should protect and provide security to its homeland.
