We made a big mistake

My mother died from a disease that was usually experience by 1 out of 8 women in the world which is called breast cancer. we don't expect that my mother will get experience of having that disease since she was really a healthy woman.

One day on 3rd quarter of the year 2020 my mother get accident where she slipped and get fell while sitting on the floor gate of her friends house. she just get therapy we call here in Philippines "Hilot" a kind of massage to relieve the pain, adjust the blood circulation and fix the pinch root of a blood vessel after that incident. this incidence make up our mind that the backpain that was experiencing by our mother on the month of March year 2021 was due to this accident. and again a lot of local suggestion how to treat that like drinking a herbal medicine and some speculate that what our mother experiencing that time was symptoms of over acid or UTI. but in the end after my mother started to lost her ability to stand due to a great pain she felt on her back once she started to stand, we started to talk and decide to bring her on hospital.

What is Hilot?

About Hilot Massage as a Healing Therapy

Originating in the Philippines, Hilot is a hands-on healing art that involves intuition and massage. A Hilot therapist, called manghihilot or albularyo, is trained in massage and body-mind connections. Although Hilot is a deep-tissue massage the touch is gentle. The manghihilot, intuitively scans the body with hand touching as a means to diagnose areas which are energetically imbalanced. With this information in hand the manghihilot will zero in on those areas to work on to give balance and relief. Each session is unique because of the focus on treating problematic areas.

Hilot is not the typical massage a person would seek out as a relaxation form of touch therapy. For this reason you will unlikely find this type of massage on a typical "menu" of massages to choose from in a spa setting. Its focus is to identify problems in the body and correct them. A Hilot session may result in easing stress and relaxing tense muscles, but the massage itself could actually be less than relaxing... causing some deep tissue discomfort. It is a matter of getting to the source of pain and bringing balance.

How the Manghihilot Identifies Imbalances

Much like a doctor's visit, questions will likely be asked by the manghihilot or an inquiry sheet will be provided, allowing the client to give concerns or complaints as part of the full assessment. You may be asked to describe your urine output or stool regularities/irregularities.

The client's pulse (strength, weakness, etc.) will be assessed to identify which (if any) of the four elements (air, earth, fire, or water) is lacking or overpowering. For example, too much fire energies would be to consuming, not enough water could mean stymied emotions, etc. The body would also be evaluated for coloring, temperature, sensitivities, obvious lumps, open sores, etc.

We first brought her in our local public city hospital on our city and she get diagnose there that it was a Severe crack on L4 & L5 of Lumbar vertebrae which is causing a great pain from her back and legs. my mother didn't get treated there instead they keep passing us on different doctor and just give us a pain reliever medicine and one time after my mother diagnosis release they move my mother from ICU to surgery department & after a day they said we don't need to stay there and get treat in our house. My big brother get angry and mad that time because they keep ignoring our complain that my mother still feel a severe pain once she get started to sit or stand. we request an ambulance so we can move my mother without letting her sit or stand, but they keep denying it and said that there ambulance is only use to pick up an emergency patient. we didn't already argue with them instead we call an ambulance from rescue team of City municipal. well to tell the truth that hospital charging us some medicine that we didn't get at the time my mother was confine there. My Brother argue one of there nurse and the nurse tell "you don't need to worry since your not the one going to pay that bills". yeah that's right we didn't pay any amount since the one who paid that was a government agency called "MALASAKIT and SWA" but honestly the corruption is really deep in grave while there service is really not good. I understand that every nurse and doctor was really on edge of there work since they usually work over 72 hours or more straight due to demand of there service but honestly to say they can still serve there patient in a better way not like that.

What is L4 and L5 vertebrae?

  • L4 and L5 vertebrae. Each vertebra consists of a vertebral body in front and a vertebral arch at the back. The vertebral arch has 3 bony protrusions: a prominent spinous process in the middle and two transverse processes on either side. The region between the spinous process and the transverse process is called the lamina. The region between the transverse process and the vertebral body is called the pedicle. The vertebrae are joined by facet joints (zygapophyseal joints), which are covered by articulating cartilage to provide smooth movements between the joint surfaces.

The L4 and L5 vertebral bodies are taller in front than behind. The upper and lower ends of each vertebral body are covered by bony endplates that help resist compressive loads placed on the spine.2

  • L4-L5 intervertebral disc. A disc made of a gel-like material (nucleus pulposus) surrounded by a thick fibrous ring (annulus fibrosus) is situated between the vertebral bodies of L4 and L5. This disc provides cushioning and shock-absorbing functions to protect the vertebrae from grinding against each other during spinal movements.

    Read more about Spinal Discs

The height of the L4-L5 disc plays an important role in maintaining the lordosis (inward curvature) of the lumbar spine.2

  • L4 spinal nerve. The L4 spinal nerve roots exit the spinal cord through small bony openings (intervertebral foramina) on the left and right sides of the spinal canal. These nerve roots join with other nerves to form bigger nerves that extend down the spine and travel down each leg.

    • The L4 dermatome is an area of skin that receives sensations through the L4 spinal nerve and includes parts of the thigh, knee, leg, and foot.

    • The L4 myotome is a group of muscles controlled by the L4 spinal nerve and includes parts of several muscles in the back, pelvis, thigh, leg, and foot.3

The L4-L5 motion segment provides a bony enclosure for the cauda equina (nerves that continue down from the spinal cord) and other delicate structures.1

See Lumbar Spine Anatomy and Pain

In This Article:

Common Problems at L4-L5

Some of the more common injuries and disorders that may occur at the L4-L5 motion segment include:

  • Facet joint problems. The high degree of mobility at L4-L5 makes this motion segment prone to facet joint related problems, such as osteoarthritis2, synovial cyst (fluid-filled sac) formation, and instability of the facets.

See Facet Joint Disorders and Back Pain

  • Disc problems. The L4-L5 disc is at a high risk of degeneration. This risk may be due to increased loads at the L4-L5 motion segment and decreased movement in the segments below this level. A change in disc height due to degeneration may affect the lordosis of the lumbar spine.2 The disc may also herniate due to degeneration or injury.4

See Lumbar Herniated Disc: What You Should Know

  • Spondylolysis. A fracture of the pars interarticularis (a small segment of bone from the vertebral arch joining the facet joints) can occur at the L4-L5 level due to concentration of compressive loads in this region.2 It can occur on one or both sides. Frequently, the bone does not break, but becomes stressed and this condition is called a pars stress reaction.

    Watch Lumbar Spondylolysis Video

  • Degenerative spondylolisthesis. The angle of the L4-L5 facet joint changes with age, making this level susceptible to spondylolisthesis (forward slippage of L4 on L5) due to degenerative changes in individuals over 60 years of age.2

    See Degenerative Spondylolisthesis

  • Spinal stenosis. Narrowing (stenosis) of bony openings for nerves due to the presence of bone spurs (abnormal bone growth) or other degenerative changes may cause compression of the nerve roots in the area of stenosis.

    See Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

External trauma from falls or motor vehicle accidents may cause facet joint dislocation, fracture, and/or damage to the cauda equina at this level. Rarely, tumors and infections may affect the L4-L5 vertebrae and spinal segment.

After a week staying home my mother keeps struggling on the pain she felt from her back and legs. and honestly I cant already take that anymore so I started to look a way how to treat her until one of the friend of my mother that I get chat in messenger suggested since my mother is dependent of her dead husband in AFP she can be admitted in Veterans Memorial Medical Center Also known as VMMC. so we brought her there at first she was admitted in Orthopedics department but while in process of diagnosis they discovered some fluids in her lumbar vertebrae bone which is told the reason for weakening of her lumbar and the physician of the hospital discover that the fluid was caused by the most dangerous cell that was cancer which is found on her breast. Its already stage 4 and we regret that we discovered that late.

What is breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is cancer that forms in the cells of the breasts.

After skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States. Breast cancer can occur in both men and women, but it's far more common in women.

Substantial support for breast cancer awareness and research funding has helped create advances in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Breast cancer survival rates have increased, and the number of deaths associated with this disease is steadily declining, largely due to factors such as earlier detection, a new personalized approach to treatment and a better understanding of the disease.

Now if we move back on the past. it happen that one day on year of 2017 she get a little lump on his left breast and didn't get check up. She just ignore that and started to listen on other peoples suggestion to use a Vita+ and Lola Remedios. She drink that everyday twice a day, at the start it was effective the lump is started to melt little by little so my mother get confident that its started already to heal which we thought that little lump is just kind of abscess. we never thought that lump is already a symptoms of her early stage of breast cancer which we ignore.

Symptoms of breast cancer

Signs and symptoms of breast cancer may include:

  • A breast lump or thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissue

  • Change in the size, shape or appearance of a breast

  • Changes to the skin over the breast, such as dimpling

  • A newly inverted nipple

  • Peeling, scaling, crusting or flaking of the pigmented area of skin surrounding the nipple (areola) or breast skin

  • Redness or pitting of the skin over your breast, like the skin of an orange

Because of a thought we made a biggest mistake in our life which took the life of my lovingly mother and make her suffer for almost 2 years from the disease that we ignore and thought that was only simple abscess. the reason my mother ignore that lump and use an alternative way was due to lack of finance and way of thinking that rather to use the money on check up its better to use its to feed and fulfill the needs of my son and daughter. A mother really sacrifice all just for her child and that one the greatest regret we the child of her get feel now. If we only didn't demand any and we just suggest that time to get check up on a real physician. this will not going to happen and we still have our beloved mother.

She also struggle on that disease for almost 2 years before she get died which we thought she survives already since she finish all the chemotherapy also she get fine for almost 3 months after the last session of her chemotherapy. but unexpectedly she get died on the complication that cause by her disease and treatment.

To prevent the Breast cancer

Breast cancer risk reduction for women with an average risk

Breast self-examOpen pop-up dialog box

Making changes in your daily life may help reduce your risk of breast cancer. Try to:

  • Ask your doctor about breast cancer screening. Discuss with your doctor when to begin breast cancer screening exams and tests, such as clinical breast exams and mammograms.

Talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks of screening. Together, you can decide what breast cancer screening strategies are right for you.

  • Become familiar with your breasts through breast self-exam for breast awareness. Women may choose to become familiar with their breasts by occasionally inspecting their breasts during a breast self-exam for breast awareness. If there is a new change, lumps or other unusual signs in your breasts, talk to your doctor promptly.

Breast awareness can't prevent breast cancer, but it may help you to better understand the normal changes that your breasts undergo and identify any unusual signs and symptoms.

  • Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all. Limit the amount of alcohol you drink to no more than one drink a day, if you choose to drink.

  • Exercise most days of the week. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise on most days of the week. If you haven't been active lately, ask your doctor whether it's OK and start slowly.

  • Limit postmenopausal hormone therapy. Combination hormone therapy may increase the risk of breast cancer. Talk with your doctor about the benefits and risks of hormone therapy.

Some women experience bothersome signs and symptoms during menopause and, for these women, the increased risk of breast cancer may be acceptable in order to relieve menopause signs and symptoms.

To reduce the risk of breast cancer, use the lowest dose of hormone therapy possible for the shortest amount of time.

  • Maintain a healthy weight. If your weight is healthy, work to maintain that weight. If you need to lose weight, ask your doctor about healthy strategies to accomplish this. Reduce the number of calories you eat each day and slowly increase the amount of exercise.

  • Choose a healthy diet. Women who eat a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil and mixed nuts may have a reduced risk of breast cancer. The Mediterranean diet focuses mostly on plant-based foods, such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and nuts. People who follow the Mediterranean diet choose healthy fats, such as olive oil, over butter and fish instead of red meat.
