As time goes by, the use of the internet is becoming more advanced, especially in the information age or the current generation where almost everything is accessible online. We cannot deny that the application of technology is useful in the community in different aspects, especially communication. The information age brings an opportunity to everyone, so we will have access to the internet wherein sharing, interacting, and delivering your freedom of speech is instant because of the advancement of technology.
However, the emergence of the information age can also affect someone's daily life if it is used in a wrongful act or is abusive. Personally, the existence of the information age affects my daily life by having trust issues, a lack of knowledge, and being less productive. In this generation, it is hard to trust anyone, especially if you got the information on the internet, where getting fake news is common and inevitable. This is how trust issues grow for me. Misinformation can lead to bad events, especially if we are talking about health. Since everyone can post publicly using social media, it is hard to determine what is real and what is fake.
Also, the amount of information given on the internet is too much and can possibly cause information anxiety to anyone. Furthermore, it also causes a lack of knowledge for me. Unlike the old generation, where the library was the primary source of information, this age has access to the internet, where you can get the information without hassle. As a result, reading the content isn't possible if laziness strikes, gaining knowledge and information is lessened compared to reading books.
In addition, less productivity is what I hate the most among the disadvantages of the information age because I usually spend most of my time visiting my social media accounts and other online games instead of doing more productive activities. I also observed that it can cause misinterpretation between the conversation of two or more people if we used an online medium based on how the text is written like all letters are upper case which is commonly interpreted as mad.
Lastly, in this age, the privacy of people is disregarded by collecting the data privacy based on the platform’s terms and conditions to send the appropriate advertisement to you based on your online activities, which are tracked by their algorithms. In my opinion, privacy is one of the most important things to consider for an individual, and the current situation at this age affects my daily life when it comes to privacy by making me afraid of doing something online that may possibly cause hacking and blackmailing.
Finally, I do believe that the information age has its own advantages and disadvantages. The result will depend on how people use it in their daily lives. Abusing this kind of opportunity may lead to negative results. In my case, the information age affects my daily life in emotional, intellectual, and social aspects. Remember, keep everything in balance to avoid unnecessary outcomes.
