The atis plant is known for its fruit which is a favorite of many Filipinos. It has green, rounded but convex fruits with white flesh and dark seeds. It is also common to see its tree growing all over the Philippine archipelago.

WHAT NUTRITION AND CHEMICALS CAN BE OBTAINED FROM ATIS?

Different parts of the atis plant can contain many types of chemicals and nutrients that can have health benefits:

Its leaves are derived from the alkaloid chloroplatinate

Another alkaloid anonaine can also be found in its leaves, seeds, and bark.

The skin of the atis fruit contains alkaloids, proteins, carbohydrates, flavanoids, glycosides, saponins, and tannins.

Atis seeds contain alkaloids, neutral resins, and fixed oils

WHAT PART OF THE PLANT IS USED AS A MEDICINE, AND HOW ARE THEY USED?

Some parts of the plant can be used as medicine such as:

Leaves. Atis leaves can be boiled for drinking, or grinded to apply.

Flowers. The fruit of the atis can be eaten right away. Raw atis is also used medicinally by extracting its juice and applying it to the affected area.

Bones. Bones are often crushed and mixed with oil for washing or ointment.

Wood bark. The bark of the atis tree can be boiled and given to the sick to drink.

Root. The root is also boiled for drinking by the sick.

WHAT DISEASES CAN ATIS BE TREATED?

1. Pagnanana. The crushed salt-coated leaves are applied to the wound so that it can heal quickly and expel pus.

2. Lice and lice. The atis bones are crushed and put in oil to soak the head with lice and lice. Leave it all night before rinsing the next day.
