Sex education in young adults
Most African countries regard talking about sex as taboo yet sex education is in all likelihood the most beneficial intervention by which young people can protect themselves against abuse, exploitation, unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV The reason most people can't talk about sex or discuss sex with young adults is their inability to relate with those young adults and lack of right words to use. Programmes on promoting sex education should be introduced in some rural areas to teach them the rudiments and importance of sex education Sex education can be defined as the purveying of concise and vital information about the anatomy, physiology and psychology of sex, and connecting this to practical issues that normally affect adolescents, like contraception, abortion and Sexually transmitted infection. Sex education for children is rarely done openly in almost every culture, especially in Africa and others. Sexuality education carried out within a safe and conducive learning environment and alongside access to health services has a positive and long effect on the health and wellness of young adults. Several studies have shown that the introduction of sexuality education schemes can help to curb the high occurrences of teenage pregnancies, abortion and lower the rates of sexually transmitted infection and HIV infection among young people. Surprisingly sex education increases confidence and strengthening skills to deal with different challenges, it can empower young people to develop stronger and more meaningful relationships. Societal views, norms and gender discrimination affect the expression of sexuality and sexual behaviour in young adults. Family, being the first agent of socialization should engage this issue more with children/young adults
Families should teach young adults so they won't be misled
It's important for parents to teach their children's adult education while they are young, there are parents who feel shy to talk with their children about adult education when they already grew up. Maybe at the age of 14-19, are a good age to talk with children about this issue... My opinion!
