Self-Discipline is composed of two main mental skills:

1. Self-Control

2. And Self-Motivation

As with all mental skills, they can be trained. In fact, they are trainable. The training in self-discipline takes place through conscious repetition of new behaviors. "Practice makes perfect" may be the most common phrase we hear from all areas of life, and it does apply to self-discipline, but not in the ways you may have seen before.

In fact, in the world of self-discipline there are two types of practice periods. You have 1) Your "Practice Window", and 2) Your "Practice Events".

Your Practice Window is your target timeframe in which you work on your self-discipline. That window could be 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 2 hours, 14 days, 4 weeks or more—the idea is that you pick a window in which to practice and then you work on strengthening your discipline during within that set time frame.
