During the reign of the philosopher Diogenes, there was another king named Dennis. Diogenes' life was extremely miserable because he did not flatter the king. He lived like an ordinary person. But another philosopher named Aristopus, his contemporary, became the owner of a lot of wealth by flattering the king. One day while eating, Aristotle saw Diogenes eating only bread with vegetables.
Diogenes replied with a laugh, "And if you had learned to eat bread with vegetables, you would not have to flatter your king today."
