Cupid and Psyche is a literary text that was written by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis in the 2nd century AD, derived from the Metamorphoses. The storyline is about resolving the hurdles of love between Psyche and Cupid. The genre of Cupid and Psyche are mythology and fantasy fiction. It has been viewed as an allegory by several authors, with Cupid portraying Love and Psyche the Soul. It was wildly prevalent with Renaissance readers as, amongst the many visual depictions of the plot, poetic, dramatic and musical representations perpetuated.

In the literary text, Psyche is such a stunning princess that the goddess Venus gets jealous, so she directs her son Cupid to make her fall in love with a terrible creature, but he finds love with Psyche himself conversely. He becomes her invisible husband, accompanying her just in the evening. Psyche refuses to follow his instructions not to try to look at him, and in so doing she loses him while she is searching for him, she follows a series of cruel and challenging tasks set by Venus in hopes to get him back. Soon afterward, Cupid can no longer stand to see her pain or to be apart from her and begs to the gods for their sake. Psyche became immortal, and in heaven, the couple are married that end up having a daughter together named "Pleasure".

Cupid and Psyche have great flavors because of Psyche adventures to get back the trust of her only love “Cupid”. One of the things I liked in the story is when Psyche becomes immortal and their trust between each other come back again, so we can truly determine that love cannot live where there is no trust. In contrary, what I didn’t liked in the story is when Venus fool Psyche that the box is about beauty but it’s death, so this kind of scenario will prove that if you want to be trust by someone genuinely , you will do anything even death will knocks you. If I will compare it to other story or novel, I would say Beauty and the Beast because it’s like at first Psyche thought that his husband is truly monster but because of the light she knew the truth. While in the Beauty and the Beast, Belle thought that she will be forever be in the palace with the beast but because of love the beast become beautiful human person.

Cupid and Psyche are one of the best literary texts that I had read because of the allegories and poetic style of languages. This kind of story is a must to read and I highly recommended because of the unpredictable twist of the story, for instances that Psyche will be married a monstrous creature but the truth is she married a handsome god. When I was reading the story, it feels like you are in a fantasy world wherein gods and goddesses were real. Also, I love the moral of the story that without trust, there is no existence of love too. So If I will give this literary text a score from 1-5, I will give it 4.9 because it almost perfect and its truly recommendable to all people who loves mythology and fantasy fiction.
