The ethical rules or moral principles, which are also called moral or ethical values are often called moral standards precisely because they are most valuable or with the highest quality of rules. Rules can be standards but not all rules are standards.  So, the rules that are not moral principles are non-moral standards.  This is why there are laws that are not necessarily moral.  To easily differentiate moral standards from non-moral standards, some of their characteristics are discussed.
