My Examination Experience by Charles
I got to my center a few minutes before 7:00 am for it was not hard to locate. When I got there, the gate was locked and a lot of candidates were in vehicles and waiting while some were under shades because it was raining. About two minutes later, an official came in and opened the gates. Covid-19 regulations were observed and some security officials did security checks. We were only allowed to take with us a pencil and our examination slip. We were taken to a room where our biometrics were confirmed and we were directed to our seats. After everyone had been screened, science students were given a sheet of paper for rough calculations. We were required to fill the paper with our registration and examination numbers. After this was done, the examination started properly.
The examination was ok. Before we got there, the computers had already been powered on. The software interface was user-friendly. The center was strictly monitored by five invigilators. We could all see the CCTV cameras and we were assured that they were working fine. When you get to the center and you are asked to sit on your chair, your computer plays a video after which you are taken to a page that cautions against examination malpractice. Below that page, you will see two buttons, "replay video" and "proceed to the next page". You will then be advised to click on the button that reads "proceed to the next page" after which you'll be taken to a page that requires you to input your registration number. After completing that, you will be taken to a page that shows your details and the examination guidelines which include;
• The key N on your keyboard can be used to take you to the next question.
• The key P on your keyboard can be used to take you to the previous question.
• The down arrow key on your keyboard can be used to scroll down the page.
• The up arrow key on your keyboard can be used to scroll up the page.
• The key A on your keyboard can be used to select options A.
• The key B on your keyboard can be used to select option B.
• The key C on your keyboard can be used to select option C.
• The key D on your keyboard can be used to select option D.
• The key S on your keyboard can be used to submit your work, so be careful not to click on it.
• the key Y is to confirm your submission.
It is either you follow the above guidelines or you use the mouse provided.
After this, you are to click on the button that reads "start examination". Immediately, you will be taken to a page where you will see your picture and details, you are required to scroll up the page. If you don't, you will think you have not started your attempt, unknowing you that your questions are up on that page. When you scroll up, you will see your questions and at the top of the page, you will see options that include the different subjects you are offering and the calculator. The calculator appears once clicked and you are required to click on the required values to be calculated. Perchance you have any issue, you are required to call the attention of the invigilator(s). Once you are done, you are to click on submit and confirm it.
Glitches
I noticed some technical glitches. Apart from the fact that I got several pop-ups showing a poor connection, two questions in Physics were incomplete. The first one had to do with heat, the question required us to find the power rating of a heater but the time in minutes was omitted. Also, a question involving the determination of temperature was not completed as the resistance at the steam point was not also given.
Generally, everyone had a time limit of 120 minutes (2 hours) and we were given 60 questions in English Language and 40 questions in the others, mine being Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.
