One day a very poor and ugly woman, Martha showed up in a luxury restaurant for an interview. She was not well dressed or not was good in looking. She looked terrible.
She asked the owner of the restaurant if she could work as a baker in his place. She added that she was good in baking and made delicious cakes. The owner became astonished and made laugh of her. He refused her telling that he wouldn't even hire her as a cleaner let alone baker. She became shocked and sad but didn't lose hope. She again said that she needed money to feed her two kids. He again laughed at her and said that she was lying as no man would like to marry her or have children with her.
Being refused and rebuked she ran out in tears from the restaurant. She didn't find out a way to feed her children. She became desperate but luck favor her in a bitter way this time. On her way she found a poster saying that there would be a competition of the ugly woman. She at once thought that this would be her chance to earn money. She didn't think about her dignity. She went to the mentioned place and found that it was a circus. It turned out that the owner of the circus wanted to do something unusual and looking for participants for the show.
Martha met the owner and he became amazed seeing her. He told that she was the one he was looking for. He also told her that he had never seen such a freak in his lifetime. His words were enough to hurt Martha but she had no way. She had two children who were eagerly waiting for her to come back with food. She didn't thought about her dignity and participated.
Soon she enter into the circus arena for her performance but as soon as she entered there she became popular for her look. People humiliated her and all the circus artists avoided her and also chuckled her back. This made Martha to be stronger day by day.
And so one day she gathered courage to tell her stories to all. She attached a photo of a beautiful woman and two children on her mirror. Every insider noticed it and asked her from where she had stole it. She replied it was her and her family. She further told that she had not always been so ugly. Then she started telling her stories...
Martha was pretty enough and was happily married with a young man. He was a soldier and she worked as a baker in a fancy restaurant. They had two kids and lived a very decent life.
It happened when her husband was serving the army. One day, she had a severe headache. She couldn't tolerate it and went to the hospital. She had several tests and observing the report the doctor said to her that she had a rare disease that would cause her body parts to be enlarged.
She was upset at it but there was no other option. She had to take a lot of medicines because they didn't work properly. Finally she figured out that her body parts are growing in an uneven shape and she looked horrible. She was sure that her husband wouldn't love her anymore and would leave her. She also asked her husband that if he wanted to leave, she would understand him. But her husband refused to leave and said that he didn't love her body, but her soul. Martha became pleased to her husband.
But her present condition was not made in a day. But everyday her life collapsed more and more. One day, she went to the fancy restaurant where she used to work. But the manager of that didn't allowed her to go in and fired her from the doorstep. He showed a reason that if she worked there and the customers saw her, they won't ever come to them. So, though she was good in baking, she lost her job.
She was upset and broken. That time she needed the support form her husband. But the bitter truth was revealed then that her husband had an affair with a beautiful lady and he left her and the two kids with nothing. This was enough for her to be completely broken, but she decided to be strong for the sake of her children.
So, she started to look for job. But there was no one who wanted to hire her. The only work they could do is to humiliate her. She was desperate and found that poster. That is how she was forced by herself to work in the circus.
After hearing her sad story, no artist would make fun of her. And they felt ashamed of their behavior. Martha continued to work in the circus and endured the bullying by the audience. When she returned home and saw the beautiful and happy faces of her kids, she at once forgot everything. They always tried to keep her talents in practice. So, everyday they wanted the cakes made by their mother. They always praised her cakes as it was always delicious.
In the mean time, her children grew up and they were lucky enough to study in University. Soon they got government job and become rich. One day they wished to surprise their mother and took her to an unknown place. When they reached, Martha found a bakery shop in front of her. Her daughter said that this was their mother's bakery and she would be the owner of it. Her son said that he along with his sister had saved money to present her the gift to make her happy.
Martha finally quit her job at the circus and started to run the bakery all by herself. Soon it became famous and customer crowded there despite her look. Martha was very talented and she had prove that too. So, remember that there are no scary people, there are only scary souls.
