Newborn🕺 baby or💃 child🥀

The arrival of a baby filled the family with joy. The first question that haunts everyone from the moment of birth - is the newborn healthy? It can be understood by observing something soon after a baby is born. Eg: Normally a healthy baby is born after 37 to 42 weeks of gestation. His normal weight at birth should be 2.5 to 4 kg. Breathing is spontaneous, rhythmic, and continues at a rate of 30 to 60 breaths per minute. Heart beat 100 to 160 beats per minute. Head circumference (OFC) is about 35 cm and must not have any congenital physical defects or deformities. Apart from this some features are seen. A healthy newborn can breastfeed from the moment after birth. Most newborns pass urine within 24 hours of birth. But some have their first pee within 48 hours—no need to worry. Most babies pass their first stool (meconium-dark green) within 24 hours of birth. They usually sleep 18 hours out of 24 hours.

Infant and toddler food

There are many challenges in feeding growing children with age-appropriate nutritious food in Bangladesh. Many parents are not well informed about when and how to give complementary foods to their children in addition to breast milk. But it is very important to avoid malnutrition during the early development of the baby. To ensure nutrients and develop a strong immune system, the baby must be breastfed until six months of age. Once the baby is six months old, he should be fed family foods like cereals and vegetables and eggs. A child should be fed breast milk along with other family foods till the age of two years. This is called complementary feeding. Through this, the baby gets used to eating family food from mother's milk only. It is very important to meet the growing nutritional needs of the baby. During this phase, from six months to 24 months of age, the child's nutritional needs are met and is a time when physical and mental development occurs. Nutritional deficiencies and illnesses during this phase are responsible for high rates of undernutrition in children under the age of five worldwide. However, timely complementary feeding Parents have very limited knowledge about starting feeding, frequency of feeding with age, and what changes should be made in the menu. Due to food insecurity in the family, a quarter of the entire population is not fed enough food. Low-income families cannot always afford non-vegetarian foods such as fish and meat. Rates of age-appropriate complementary feeding are low nationally and alarmingly low in some areas, such as urban slums.

Only one-third of children receive age-appropriate complementary foods. Only 23 percent receive infant and young child feeding guidelines. First milk or formula feeding 51%; from 2011 to 2014, the rate of regular breastfeeding decreased from 90% to 87%. Research shows that Bangladeshi mothers often prefer formula food for their children and have difficulty convincing their husbands of the need to buy fish and meat. Face it. Some communities have superstitions about feeding fish and meat to babies. Sometimes these foods are not given to young children even if they are available in sufficient quantity in the house. Within an hour of birth, the newborn must be fed with mother's breast milk, known as 'shal dudh'. This milk contains many components that protect newborns from common diseases such as diarrhea and pneumonia. But the number of families who take this early measure and breastfeed their babies up to two years is still very low. There is also inequality in terms of geographical location and economic status. While in Sylhet division, the rate of feeding 'Shal milk' to children is 73.5 percent, it is 47.3 percent in Khulna. There is a significant gap between mothers of poor and rich families in feeding their children with Shal milk. In the case of poor mothers, this rate is 48.1 percent, but it is 62.5 percent in the case of mothers from rich families. Although Bangladesh has achieved the target set by the World Health Organization regarding breastfeeding, it is decreasing alarmingly. From 2011 to 2014, the rate of regular breastfeeding decreased from 90 percent to 87 percent

Nine months and 10 days or 38-42 weeks or 280 days will take birth from mother's womb. Birth weight should be 2500 grams to 3900 grams. The length is 47-52 cm and head circumference is 33-36 cm. The normal skin color of navchatak is pink. But of course, depending on the skin color of the parents, the body color of the newborn baby may vary slightly. In normal conditions, a healthy newborn has folded arms and legs. Yelling, face contorted in painful excitement. A healthy newborn sleeps most of the day. Because the newborn's brain is immature, he gets tired and falls asleep very little. The baby can see immediately after birth. He closes his eyes or cries at a sudden flash of light but cannot fix his gaze steadily on any object. But there is nothing to be afraid of. There is no substitute for mother's breast milk for the baby. The first food a baby takes after birth is breast milk. And mothers have many questions about breastfeeding. The first doubt that works in the mind of almost every mother is, is her baby getting proper milk? Such a doubt of a mother is not unreasonable. Babies cannot express their feelings verbally, due to which a mother has to be always alert. Usually the baby should be fed once within an hour of birth. At this time, the baby's ability to absorb the mother's milk is very high. So try to breastfeed the baby as soon as possible after birth. Then how do you know if your baby is getting enough milk? By looking at some signs, you can understand whether your baby needs milk. Some of these common symptoms are.

1. Swallow

After birth, the baby has a greater ability to suck milk. When the baby latches on the breast frequently, the coagulated milk will easily flow into the baby's mouth. When the baby gets enough milk, he will swallow frequently to drink. If the baby does not get enough milk, he will pull the breast repeatedly but will not swallow. He will hold the breast in his mouth for a long time. Many times the baby is tired and falls asleep with the breast in his mouth.

2. The child is satisfied

Your baby will look happy when he is satisfied with his milk. If the baby keeps crying, it means the baby is hungry. This does not mean that she is not getting enough milk. For the first six months he will want to eat every 2-3 hours. If the baby wants to eat again in an hour or less, it means that the baby is not getting enough milk.

3. Baby's urine volume

A child urinates six times in twenty-four hours. If urinating less than this, you can understand that the baby is not satisfied with milk. Not only the urine but also the color of the stool is very important. Normally a healthy child has four bowel movements a day. On the first day some black sticky stools. After the third or fourth day the color of the stool is green and on the fifth day it becomes yellow.

4. weight gain

Every mother worries about her child's weight. It is normal for the baby to gain weight in the first week. Newborn babies can lose 5% to 7% of their weight in the third trimester after birth. So don't be afraid. Although weight loss occurs during the first few days of birth, the baby begins to gain weight within 10 days. But if the weight loss is 10% or more, then it is a matter of concern. Many mothers think that the baby is not getting enough milk when the baby cries. This idea is not correct. Many times the baby's crying stops when the mother hugs her chest. While feeding the baby, observe whether the baby is grasping the nipples and nipples.

5. How often the baby should be breastfed:

It varies for different children. Milk should be given once in the first hour after birth. Then when the baby needs milk, he expresses it in different ways. The more often the baby can be held on the mother's breast, the better. Mother's skin contact calms it down and develops the baby's sucking habit. And due to repeated pulling, the mother's milk starts coming down more. Usually in the first six months, the baby wants to drink milk 8 to 10 times a day. In the third month of birth, he can eat 10 to 12 times a day. After birth, the baby sleeps a little more. Make sure that the child does not eat for more than two hours even if he is asleep. A newborn baby's stomach is small. So they have to be fed little by little. Sometimes after a meal, the child may become hungry again. Then let him eat again. If the baby finishes feeding from one breast the first time, feed from the other breast the next time. In this way, change the breast and make the baby drink milk.

6. How long to breastfeed:

  • Doctors advise the baby to consume mother's milk for the first six months after birth. No other food should be given to the baby during these six months. After six months, the baby is given other foods besides breast milk. Babies can usually be breastfed up to two years of age. The longer you can breastfeed, the better for your baby. Breast milk contains all kinds of vitamins including minerals, iron which fulfills the needs of your baby. But yes, breast milk should be stopped after two years of age. The best food in the world for a baby is mother's breast milk. With a little care, a child can fully enjoy the taste and nutrition of this precious food.
