Rubber is the main component of tires, most of which are now made synthetically. In the United States, about 60% of all rubber used goes into tires and tubes. However, the rubber in tires contains several additives, the most important of which are:

Sulfur to aid vulcanization or hardening of rubber. Carbon black to increase strength and toughness in order to resist abrasion. Oils and tars to make the gum work and help with mixing and mixing. Antioxidants and antiozonants to withstand the harmful effects of sunlight and ozone, thus extending the life of the tire.

A modern tire also contains fabric, usually rayon or nylon. The composite rubber is worked onto the fabric between large rollers, creating a rubberized fabric. If a tire were made only of rubber, it would not be able to withstand the enormous pressure and heat generated at high speeds on the motorway. It would warp and crumble.

Consequently, the carcass or body of the tire is built up layer by layer of rubberized fabric. Each level is called a level. Therefore, a two-layer tire has two layers of fabric and a four-layer tire has four layers. The rubber profile is then applied.

The tread is the part of the tire that comes into contact with the road. His model was designed after careful scientific studies. The surface should grip the road when cornering and braking even in the rain.

If you look at the tread of a tire, you will find that it has very wide grooves along the tread. It also has smaller cutouts called sipes that create an angle between these grooves. This design is particularly effective in humid climates. The slats act like small windshield wipers and clean the water from the street into the large grooves, where it can drain off.

Different models and rebuilt

There are two basic tire models. The diagonal or cross layer and the radial layer. Bias is best known in the US, while radials have been the norm in Europe for fifteen years and are growing in popularity in the US. The main difference between the two, as the name suggests, is how the layers are placed.

Tire maintenance

The most important service you can offer your tires is proper inflation. This extends the service life, saves money and increases your security. The vehicle owner's manual contains the recommended tire pressures.

Insufficient pressure is one of the main causes of short tire life. When a tire is punctured, excessive flexing occurs which generates heat and weakens the tire. Studies have shown that a tire that can withstand eighteen pounds of air pressure but should weigh twenty-five pounds will only last half its normal life. If a person has driven with flat tires, the tread will wear out more at the edges than in the middle. In contrast, increased tread wear in the center towards the edges indicates that the tire is overfilled.

It is important to check the air pressure regularly. Time affects this too. A tire loses approximately half a pound of pressure for every ten degrees Fahrenheit in temperature. Trusting the gas station air pump meter may not be a good idea. They are often imprecise. A small tire pressure gauge is inexpensive and can be kept in the glove compartment.

The tires should be checked when they are cold, ie before driving more than a kilometer. This is because the tire pressure increases while driving. A tire that is not inflated in cold weather may be exposed to higher pressures than recommended in hot weather. However, never deflate the tires when they are hot as they will be pressurized when it is cold.

Proper tire maintenance also includes caution when parking and not turning curbs. It can break layers of fabric. Driving over large rocks or debris can do the same thing. Sustained high-speed steering, quick starts, quick turns and hard braking cause rapid tire wear.

It is also advisable to regularly inspect each tire for cuts or other damage that could cause failure. Also, look for stones, nails, or other "foreign objects" that could get stuck in the steps. If neglected, they can cross the gumline and create a hole.

Tires are a very important part of your car. And if you take care of them, you will not only save money but your life too.

Thats a lot of information on tires, and most of it is new to me. In India also radial tires are popular now days. Any technical reason why tires are always black in color?

@aniruddhasen Good to know type of tires popular in country.Tires are black in color because of carbon black which is added to the rubber when manufacturing them,So,carbon black gives tire its color and also it increases the durability and strength

ok, so even if we want we cannot make it in other color?
