Migraine which is defined as a headache of varying intensity, often accompanied by nausea and sentivity to light and sound is one of the most prevalent neurological conditions in the world today. It is characterized by severe and recurrent headaches which is really horrible to experience. The frequency and duration of migraine attacks are variable as they can occur a few times a year or several times in a month and the excruciating pain may last between four hours and three days.
There are various theories on the causes of migraine for example, the vascular theory which suggests that migraines are caused by problems with blood vessels in the brain. Treatments such as the Prophylactic drug treatment have helped in preventing the onset of the migraine but was declined due to side effects caused by its intake. Newer drugs called Triptans were produced and they work by reducing the pain information travelling to the brain. Treatments that really help involve avoiding the known migraine triggers like stress, alcohol and diet. The sufferers of migraine need be careful because overdose of the medication can weaken them.
