Some stories are just entertaining, but the taximan’s story is a story that is full of learning and it is also very entertaining. The taximan’s story is written by Catherine Lim. The purpose of this story is to open our eyes on what is currently happening in our society, what are the teenagers today and for us to be knowledgeable that as time goes by everything changes and some of us adapt those change that is good for us and some choose to adapt those change that will make us worst. It is a story that will touches your heart that a parent is not just a giver of all our needs but they are our teacher, friend and a hero that will guide us, lead us to the right direction and will do everything just to make our lives better and to protect us from harm.
The Taximan’s Story is about the taxi driver that is engaged in one side conversation with his passenger and he called that “madam”. The taxi driver telling stories about his experiences and observation in his surrounding in which he compared the early youth to the past generation and how different they are. He also shares things about his family and how lucky he is having eight children and having a daughter that is smart and studying hard to have good grades. He really trusts his daughter Lay Choo with no doubts. But accidentally he saw Lay Choo wearing sexy dress, make up and very bold on its behavior like a prostitute and that’s the conflict started. He punished his daughter and was ashamed to tell the teacher of Lay Choo. And from that time he wills double check Lay Choo in everything she does and his daughter is only allowed to go to school.
Meanwhile, to further criticize the story I used feminism approach because it’s really obvious that the author didn’t mention a mother in the story. Yes! The author talks about the family of the taximan but the mother was not mention. We all know that a mother has a big role in the family, she is the “Ilaw ng tahanan”. The mother should have an important part in the story and the mother should have mention when the author introduces the family of taximan. The author focuses on the character of the taximan and Lay Choo. How about the mother? She can make the story more interesting If she was there guiding her daughter and telling advices to Lay Choo. A family without a mother has a weak foundation so we should give importance to all mother and we should respect them.
One of the reasons why the taximan’s story is very appealing and captivating it is because of the language use and how the sentences constructed that makes it more entertaining and fun to read. The main character affects the story in which he made the biggest impact to the readers. It is a story that caught your attention because of the content of the story that everyone can relate and it’s very realistic. It reminds me that I should value my parents for all the sacrifices and efforts that they have done for me and my sister. But it makes me confused on who is the taximan talking to and who is madam that the story referring to. It makes it more confusing because “Madam” is not answering and talking to the taxi driver, the driver is like pretending that madam answered and he just continue his story telling about his life. It will be more understandable if the author states in the story all the responds of madam.
The Taximan’s story is about the taxi driver telling stories about his experience and his observation to the surrounding. The main character also experience struggle when his daughter change a lot the way she dressed up and make up and most especially his daughter behavior changes and it became bold. The combination of the characters, setting, plot and conflict makes the story more interesting and realistic.
