“PK”
Religion is used to be the reason of our unity and harmony, but instead of putting us in a peaceful state, people used to find bad ways in applying religion and the reason why people misunderstand each other and usually we misinterpret their beliefs. Some of us believe that our religion is more superior to others. That’s why we didn’t accept ideas coming from others and the main reason why there are wars and tensions among religions. PK is a 2014 Indian satirical science fiction comedy film, and Rajkumar Hirani acted as director. The movie started when an alien having a human body arrives on our planet to conduct a research on human civilization, about human lifestyle and our religion. As he arrives, someone stole his necklace acted as his remote and a big help for him to bring himself back to his planet. While he is in a process of finding his remote, he finds a friend named Jagat “Jaggu” Janini.
Jaggu has also a lover named Sarfaraz Yousaf but unfortunately they didn’t got married because of the girl receiving a letter from wrong person having a content that is not intended for her. PK has also a good friend named Bhairon Singh and a great enemy named Tapasvi Maharaj. But the character that captivates me the most was PK, his character in the movie was funny but intelligent. His innocence creates a bubbly personality of him, that’s why I like him the most compared to other characters in the movie. And because of his survey conducted on our earth he created a realization to all of us, that we should believe in one God and we should not be blinded by others beliefs and religions.
PK was sent on earth to conduct a research about human civilization. To have his observation about how people interact with each other and their way of living. To have his observation and to found out what human being used to be. Our language, our physical appearance and characteristics. The way we talk, the way we walk, and all the things that are different from their planet. He was sent to earth to have his survey about our religion and our God and all the things that has a connection with our world.
He is able to understand our language and our way of living. The way we treat and interact with each other, our lifestyle and our civilization as a whole. As he starts his mission of finding his stolen remote, he unexpectedly engages in different kinds of religions. While he is on his journey finding God that would probably help him find his remote and be able to travel back on his planet, he realized and found out that people believes in different religions. And our religion affects our way of life and we practice different rituals to communicate with our God that is based on our religion. He discovers that because of having a different religion, people misunderstand each other and create a conflict among religions. He also found out that many people uses the image of God to have it as their business and their means of earning money. And yes our religion guides us as we grow to be a better person in the future. This realization of PK is a proof that religion has a positive and negative effect on us people depending on how we apply it in our own lives.
As I watched and be able to finish the movie and based also on PK’s realization, I can conclude that religion has a great effect on us. Yes religion really taught of what is bad and good, what is moral and immoral, and what is right and wrong and it molds us to be an improved person in the future. But we people are the one who find bad ways on applying religion in our lives and instead of making us connected and united, but it is the main reason why we are being separated and detached from one another. I also conclude that our religion can never save us, your faith will. No matter what religion we practice as long as our faith in God is strong enough like no one can ever break it, then we can guarantee to ourselves that our soul will be saved from the fire of hell. We should not easily believe of what other people is saying regarding religion and what they believe about God. Because the only and true God is cannot be seen nor touch, but we feel Him and His greatness and holiness and He is worthy of our praise and worship.
My favorite scene in the movie and the one that I can relate on is when PK starts to find the God that can help him in finding his remote. That’s why he engages in many different religions praises many different Gods because he thought that if he do all those things he can be able to talk with God and ask Him for help. He also acquires different sculptures that is said to be his means of communicating with God, he buys small sculptures of God with different value or price. I can relate in this part because I realize that we people only appreciate the greatness of God if we need something coming from Him. We only try our best to talk to Him if we have things that we want and we know that He is the answer to be able to have that something, but after we get that thing we didn’t even try to thank Him for His goodness. We only remember the presence of God the moment we need Him the most. I also realize that there are people who took advantage to everyone’s religion by making God as their means of making money. They sell different sculptures represents a God; they give price to different sculptures like they give also value to God. We people should know the God that is worthy of our praise and that is not the sculptures made by unknown people because the true God cannot be seen or touch but we use to believe in Him because of the miraculous things He have done and no one can ever do impossible things except of astounding God.
