Subject Matter Expert - S. M. E (How shall I manage the pressure?) Hello my fellow readers and writers, how are you doing? `It's 42 minutes passed the hour of 1 o'clock when I started writing this one.` I am having trouble sleeping hence decided to make my anxious time more productive and divert my attention to writing rather than to over thinking. The Sudden Meeting Last night, my Manager arranged a call with me and my two other colleagues. He informed us that tomorrow night, we'll going to represent the applications that we're considered to be as **SME (Subject Matter Expert)** to one of our BIG BOSS.
Being one of the newest member amongst our three, of course I felt so flattered that I am one of the selected team members to represent our applications to one of our BIG BOSS. It just means that my Manager trusted me so well despite of my tenure with the team. I am with the team for 2 years and 5 months already and I managed to establish sufficient knowledge in some of our applications already. I have redesigned our applications' architecture when we have moved to a new datacenter way back last year. ***Apologies for some I.T terminologies folks. You can just ignore it if you can't relate with what I am talking about.*** My manager briefed us on what needs to be discussed and what needs to be highlighted to showcase our team amongst the other team. And so in my mind, I am already constructing how am I going to present the application that was assigned to me. I am already organizing the flow. However, our Manager told us that we are only allocated 15 minutes each to represent our baby Applications. This time allowance is too small provided the broad level of information that we need to relay to our BIG BOSS. How am I going to discuss all those basic application information to our BIG BOSS in just 15 minutes period of time? This one is really bothering me right now. Aside from that, I was assigned to discuss the knowledge transition plans that we have prepared for our new joiners. Trying to keep calm and relaxed After the meeting, I tried to forget all about it and tried to relax by watching netflix movie downstairs. While watching a movie, my youngest son approached me and told me that he's sleepy already and wanted to latch. So I allow him and in less than 10 minutes, he's asleep already. So we went to our bedroom upstairs. I lay him down in bed, I turned off the light and turned on our AC. Afterwards. I calmly lay down in my bed, closed my tired eyes, and trying to put my mind at ease. However, as soon as I remember the presentation that we're going to do tonight, all of a sudden, I just felt my heart beating so loud and fast! *I can hear and feel the boom! boom! boom!.* That feeling is so familiar to me. It's very the same feeling during my previous job interviews!. Oh my God!. I tried to relax myself and prayed hoping that it will help to calm my mind. I prayed to God to give me wisdom and knowledge during our presentation tomorrow. It's an open camera meeting so I need not to be nervous cause it will surely reflect in my face and will cause distraction with my words delivery.
After praying, I decided to go downstairs and prepare a cup of hot milk. While drinking my milk, an idea suddenly clicked into my mind. ***Why not release all these anxious feeling I have by writing?*** So I sit in front of my desk, turned on my PC and started to write. And guess what? It helps. I feel more calm now as compared to earlier. My Strategy While writing this article an idea came up to my mind on what I can do to compress all those information that I have to deliver in just 15 minutes. I will use a diagram that shows how our application is working and then just focus my discussion on that diagram. I am a visual person. What I mean by that is, I can clearly understand a specific application when there's like a schematic diagram in front of me. Maybe I learned it during college . In my 2 years and 5 months tenure with our team, I managed to create a diagram containing the entire connectivity of the application that I tried to understand. I even shared it with our team and presented it to my Manager as well. Focusing in a diagram during the discussion sounds like a great plan to me. I think, 15 minutes will be more than enough on that. All I have to do now is finalize the diagram that I have created last year and that's it!. I'm ready to go!. I guess I am more relaxed now and ready to go to bed. I have emptied my cup of milk as well.
Thank you so much again for dropping by and spending some time reading my articles. **Lead image source**: https://www.clearvoice.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/shutterstock_271393532.jpg If you still have more time, you may also want to visit my sponsors page.
