The age we live in is an age of science. Science has given man so many wonderful gifts. Computer is one of them.But it is the most wonderful machine that man has ever invented. It is, in fact,the greatest wonder of modern science. It has been doing unbelievable benefits to man.
At first the idea of this electronic brain came to Charles Babbage,an English mathematician.He is called the father of modern computer. At first he invented the structure of computer in 1833.It had five parts. But an American scientist Howard Akin of Harvard University invented the computer in 1937.This machine could do difficult sums.
Essentially a computer performs three functions.1.It receives data.2.It processes data by various computations. 3.It emits data.
A computer consists of five major components. These are the input unit, the output unit,the memory unit,the control unit and the arithmetic unit.
The input and output units consist of devices that permit a computer to receive or exhibit information. The memory unit is the component unit where all data and results are stored.The control unit coordinates all the activities of the various units of the computer. The arithmetic unit performs the computer and logic operations.The computer does not work in our language. It has a machine language and accordingly it functions.
