Spring is calling for active weekend breaks, relaxing in nature and exploring new places. If you are always looking for ideas for a trip and you think you have seen everything in Slovenia, this time I present a selection of the most beautiful Slovenian lookout towers, which are a great choice for all lovers of nature, new experiences and beautiful views.

Tower on Rogla

In the north-eastern part of Slovenia, in the immediate vicinity of Zreče and Lovrenc na Pohorju, a spiral-shaped wooden work of art is hidden in the heart of the Pohorje forests. The 37-meter-high wooden observation tower is part of a special promenade that leads between the treetops and offers stunning views far and wide. In total, the path is 1043 meters long and rises to a height of 20 meters. It is suitable for families and individuals who want a special experience, as it contains many information boards, educational and didactic elements and adventure stations. The middle of the tower is also enlivened by a 62-meter-long adrenaline slide, which offers a great deal of fun for all generations.

Tower in Gonjače, Goriška brda

Goriška brda or as they like to call them, Slovenian Tuscany, is a real paradise for all lovers of wine, excellent cuisine and views of the vast vineyards. Exactly in the middle of the landscape lies the small village of Gonjače, which boasts a 23 meter high tower. You will have to climb 144 steps for a beautiful view, and the top will serve you with a 360-degree panorama. When the weather is nice, you will see the Julian Alps, the Dolomites, the Friuli lowlands and the Gulf of Trieste on one side and the Vipava Valley and the Karst on the other. The hills are also a great destination for an autumn holiday, as nature dresses in the most beautiful colors during this time.

Tower of Love, Kozjansko

In the southeastern part of Slovenia, only a few kilometers from Šentjur, stands the highest wooden tower in Slovenia at the top of Veliki Špičko (669 m). It was called the Tower of Love, and 116 steps lead to the top, including 22 platforms and two viewing platforms. At the top you will also find a wish ring that is supposed to fulfill hidden desires. The tower is just under 26 meters high, and the view from the top extends all the way to Croatia, Hungary, Austria, and even Triglav. On the Žusem hill there is also a church dedicated to St. Valentine, the patron saint of lovers, hence the name of the tower. Kozjansko is a great choice for a weekend break or exploration, and in addition to the tower you can also visit Olimje and Podčetrtek, Gorizia near Slivnica and other smaller surrounding places.

Vinarium Tower, Lendava

The famous Prekmurje tower, found in Dolgovaške gorice, in the immediate vicinity of the border with Hungary, is also called by some the Pannonian lighthouse and the Pomurje Eiffel Tower. The architectural work of art is 53.5 meters high and is considered the tallest tower in Slovenia. However, it is also the only one that can be comfortably reached by elevator. But if you are one of those who like to make an effort for the view, you will have to climb 240 steps to the top. The 360-degree view will impress you, as it extends all the way to Croatia, Austria, Hungary; we recommend a visit in the late afternoon or evening when the light is at its most beautiful. In addition to the tower, Prekmurje boasts many other places and sights worth visiting.

Tower on Rasica

Only a few kilometers from Ljubljana, Medvod or Domžale, the place of the same name is hidden under the Rašica hill, which is an excellent starting point for visiting the iron lookout tower. You can choose one of the many forest paths that lead to the top of Stane Kosac (641 m), where there is a 17 meter high tower with 84 steps. The view from the top covers a part of central Slovenia, especially the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Ljubljana Basin. Rašica is a great idea for relaxation and an active holiday in nature, and if you are looking for additional challenges, you can go to its nearest neighbor - also a very popular excursion point, Šmarna gora.

Thank you for reading.

Greetings.

An interesting read about something I have never encountered.
Such towers look like a fun alternative for looking to horizons. Perhaps someday I can go see for myself,
when next I visit Europe.
