Educate an eco-child

You do not need any special knowledge or additional financial resources to raise an eco-child and a once ecologically aware adult.

Even when it comes to ecology and ecological awareness, of course we educate the most by example. However, with certain family activities, we can encourage the development of ecological awareness in children.

And so we take care of a better carbon footprint and attitude towards nature of the whole family.

1) Picnic in nature

Why would we always just visit each other or get together at the playgrounds. Wouldn’t it be more imaginative and fun at the same time to organize a picnic in nature with friends? I believe that due to lack of time and some logistical obstacles, it is difficult to remember such an activity. I reminded you now, so don't delay.

Organize a picnic with a purpose. Its main goal, however, should be: to gather the food you will eat at the picnic. Don't be intimidated yet, I have some delicious suggestions for you:

- Mushroom connoisseurs can imagine a mushroom picnic. Stroll through the woods with a wicker basket and pick up lunch. Surely everyone will have a technical mushroom soup cooked over an open fire.

- Those who are not sure about the knowledge of edible types of mushrooms, you can go on a chestnut picnic in the fall. Find out where the chestnuts grow, and don’t forget the appropriate baking dish and cutting knife.

- Potato picnic. If you haven’t picked up a winter coat yet, now is the last time to do so. Invite friends to help you with this, and you end up rewarding them with new fries baked on embers.

- Bake corn. You can also bake corn on embers. All you need is a stick with a sharp tip to attach to to make it easier to turn.

2) Arrange a garden or mini field

In case you have your own garden, just invite the child to a joint activity in the garden. It will definitely be a real experience for him if you allow him to plant vegetables, which they will later water together and make sure that no weeds grow around it. This task also has a good and, above all, a healthy reward - observing the growth of crops will eventually bear fruit, which you will enjoy eating.

If you are the parent of a young child, don't think that cultivating the field is too difficult for him. Assign him a corner where he will be able to “cultivate” the land himself.

A great motivation is also to complete the orchard with a new apple tree, which will help you plant your prankster. The tree will grow and bear fruit full of vitamins every year.

Don’t give up even if you don’t have a garden. Be imaginative and plant parsley in a flower pot instead of a flower. Keep it in a space that will be suitable for growth and where a curious scholar will be able to water it regularly and observe it as it grows. You won't be sorry. In fact, you’ll be surprised to find that your own product has a completely different, fuller taste than a store-bought one.

If you are a sweet-toothed variety, you can imagine growing a fruit with delicious red fruits - berries, strawberries in your apartment. Kids adore them.

3) Instead of driving with car, walk and bike as much as possible

Just why should we drive a car anytime, anywhere? Isn't it more pleasant and healthier if - when time allows - you go to town, kindergarten, school or work on foot or by bike? You will probably agree that a car at shorter distances is often just a habit we have acquired due to the constant rush. I suggest replacing it with a new, healthier and more environmentally friendly habit.

4) Learn to handle with garbage

When you go for a walk, make sure that the trash you produce along the way always lands in the dumpsters provided. Don’t throw candy wrappers and empty beverage packs into nature or along the path where you walk, or worse - through the car window when you go on a trip. If there is no trash can near you, keep it in a bag until you have the opportunity to dispose of it in a suitable place.

Of course, don't forget about proper waste separation at home, on holidays and everywhere where you can show your child by example what the right attitude towards waste is.

5) Participate in the cleaning campaign

Cleaning campaigns organized by various associations and organizations are taking place more and more often. It’s time for you to register your family too. That way you will do a noble deed together. And you won't be bored, because you won't miss company. Maybe in your hometown you organize some?

6) Recycle and donate

Master Miha also teaches that it is necessary to recycle and thus reduce the amount of waste. Why don't you do it in your own way. A rag doll that will be made from worn-out clothes will definitely be a real little beauty.

In addition to making new items from old ones, you can donate things you no longer need to a number of organizations that help people in need. Surely someone will be very pleased with the sweater you stocked in the closet and your toddler outgrew it too quickly without wearing it much.

7) Buy and cook thoughtfully

It may sound ridiculous, but it’s actually true: in today’s age of consumerism, most people and children treat food badly. We stock up and throw it away unnecessarily because it expires too soon. So buy and cook thoughtfully. This way, you will teach children the most with a good example.

8) Do not drink bottled water

Consider how much you will do for the environment if you pour yourself a bottle of tap water instead of bottled water in a bottle. Or better yet - from a proven natural spring, where water is also the most alive and healthy.

9) Clean and wash with a touch of green

Increasingly, there are calls and instructions that it is good for the environment to replace aggressive artificial cleaners (washing powders, fabric softeners, etc.) with natural cleaners. Try them out and you’ll see that you don’t need a whole closet of synthetic cleaners to clean your home and laundry.

10) Energy saving

Energy saving is also an important factor in raising an eco-child. Teach your child:

- turn off the lights regularly if he does not need them,

- use energy-saving light bulbs in accordance with the instructions for use,

- switch off radio and television if he does not listen to or watch them,

- Shut down the computer if you don't need it.

- do not open the windows when the heating or cooling of the room is switched on, etc.

In all of this, however, you must by no means forget the most important factor that will influence your toddler to learn to respect nature. Never forget the fact that your child will always imitate you. To instill certain habits in him is not enough just to teach him. You have to be a role model for him, because you will achieve much better and more lasting results.

Thank you for reading.

Greetings.
