Today is Friday. Holy Friday. Weekly Eid day. The best day of the week. This day has a lot of importance and significance in Islam.

The instruction of the Holy Qur'an is to stop trading as soon as Jumu'ah is called, and remember Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) described the great virtues of this day. He also gave instructions for different periods.

How Friday came:

The first Hijri year. The Prophet (peace be upon him) left Mecca and went to Medina. The day of the Prophet's arrival in Medina was Ya'omul Aruba (Friday). On that day he went to the valley of the tribe of Bani Salem during the Zohar prayers. There he performed the Friday prayers instead of the Zohar prayers. This is the first Friday prayer in history.

However, the official start is later. Once the Prophet (peace be upon him) went to Medina and before the Friday prayers became obligatory, the Ansar Companions of Medina once sat in discussion. They said, "There is a certain day in the week for the Jews to come together." The Nazarenes also meet once a week. So we need to set aside a day in the week when we will all come together to remember God and perform the prayers.

Then they said in the discussion, Saturday is for the Jews and Sunday is for the Christians. Eventually they adopted Yaomul Aruba Friday and they named it ‘Friday’. (Siratul Mustafa and Darse Tirmizi)

Friday of the Qur'an:

The importance of Jumu'ah and Jumu'ah prayers is also mentioned in the Qur'an by Allah Almighty Himself. Irshad said about the performance of Friday prayers, O believers! When the call to prayer is made on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and stop trading. That is better for you, if you only knew. And when the prayer is ended, then disperse in the land and seek of Allah's bounty and remember Allah much, that you may be successful. (Surat al-Jumu'ah: verses 9-10)

Friday in the hadith:

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that the person who performed ablution properly, then came to perform Jumu'ah and listened attentively to the khutbah from silent (Minor) sins are forgiven. And whoever touches a pebble (during the khutbah) has done a useless thing. (That is, he destroyed the Friday thawab.) (Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood, Musnad Ahmad's prayer chapter)

Rules for Friday Prayers:

Friday prayers have been made obligatory. The two rak'at obligatory prayers of Friday and the khutbah of the Imam have been replaced by the four rak'at obligatory prayers of Johar A hadith has been narrated from Hazrat Tariq Ibn Shihab. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said that it is obligatory for all Muslims, except slaves, women, minors and the sick, to perform the Friday prayers in congregation. (Abu Dawood: 108, Mustadreke Hakem: 1062, As-Sunanul Kabir: 558)

A hadith narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) says that the Prophet (SAW) said that a person who omits the Friday prayers without any lawful reason, his name will be recorded as a hypocrite in an office which will not be erased or changed. Can't (Tafsir Mazhari, B: 9, Page: 263)

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) has narrated a hadith to the effect that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said about those people who stay away from Jumu'ah prayers (do not fall), surely I wish that I command someone Read the prayers. Then We set fire to the houses of those who do not offer the Friday prayers. (Muslim: 652, Musnad Ahmad: 3617, Musnad Ibn Abi Shaybah: 5539, Asu-Sunanul Kubra: 4935)

Prohibited work:

There are some obligatory provisions on the day after the call to prayer on Friday. At this time some provisions have to be complied with. No work outside the law can be done. Such as being busy in business or useless work even after the call to prayer. It is obligatory for the worshipers present to listen to the sermon. Therefore, it is not lawful in the eyes of the Shari'ah to engage in vain activities during the sermon.

Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) said, Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW) said, if you tell your companion to be silent while delivering the sermon on Friday, then you have said nonsense. (Sahih Bukhari: 1/126)

It is strongly proved through the narrated hadith that it is obligatory to listen to the sermon in silence during the sermon and it is haraam to speak. It is also not permissible to offer sunnat-nafl prayers during similar sermons. It is narrated in another hadith that when the Imam goes out for the sermon, he will not pray or speak. (Meshkat: 3/432)

Fatawa Shami, a reliable book on fiqh, states a principle that actions which are haram in the prayers are also haram during the khutbah. Such as: talking, eating and drinking etc. (Fataawa Shami: 3/35)

Special period:

Friday has unlimited virtues. The Prophet (peace be upon him) has mentioned these virtues in various hadiths. In a hadith narrated by Bukhari, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: When a man bathes on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, uses oil or perfume in the house, then goes out (for Friday) and separates the two If not, then the prayer is performed as much as possible and the Imam is silent when he speaks, then his (sin) is forgiven until the next Jumu'ah.

The jurists have specified these acts on the basis of Hadith. For example, 1. Bathing on Friday. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made it obligatory for those on whom Jumu'ah is obligatory to take a bath on this day. However, according to the school of Ahnaf sunnat. 2. Nails and haircuts are a good thing that day as part of cleaning. 3. Using perfume for Friday prayers. (Bukhari) 4. Miswak. (Ibn Majah) 5. Applying oil on the skin. (Bukhari) 6. Wearing good clothes to realize Jumu'ah. (Ibn Majah) 6. The worshipers face the Imam. (Tirmidhi) 6. Going to the mosque on foot. (Abu Dawood) 9. Jumma day also Jumma night more and more Durud lessons. (Abu Dawood: 1047) 10. Pray more and more on this day. (Bukhari) 11. Do not go to the front of the mosque through the gap of the worshipers. (Bukhari) 12. Reading Kahaf on Fridays. For the reader, Allah Ta'ala illuminates the time between the two Fridays.

Time to accept prayers:

The most significant aspect of the virtues of Jumu'ah is that there is a time on this day when a believer makes a supplication and Allah accepts his supplication. A hadith has been narrated from Abu Hurairah. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: There is a time on Friday when a believer prays to Allaah for something good, and Allaah will give it to him. (Sahih Muslim: 652, Musnad Ahmad: 6151, As-Sunanul Kubra: 10234) What is the most precious time for prayers to be accepted on Friday? There are 45 views on this. However, the most famous view is that it is the time of accepting prayers from Asr prayers to Maghrib. A hadith has been narrated from Hazrat Anas (RA). He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said that the desired time of Jumu'ah is from after 'Asr to before sunset. (Musnad Ibn Abi Shaybah: 5470, Tirmidhi: 469)

Special Darud Sharif period:

Anas Ra. It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: You should recite more and more Darood Sharif on Friday. Because Gabriel (peace be upon him) had just appeared with the word of God. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): When a Muslim recites the Darood on you once in the world, I bestow mercy on him ten times and all my angels ask forgiveness for him ten times. Targib: 3/299

Hazrat Abu Huraira. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: It will be light when I pass the Pulsirat. A person who recites darood 70 times on Friday is forgiven for 60 years.

In another tradition, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Whoever recites this Darood Sharif 70 times before getting up from his place after the Asr prayers on Friday, may Allaah bless him and grant him peace.” His 70 years of sins are forgiven and the reward of 70 years of worship is written in his record. (Afzalus Salawat: 26). -Abu Billal
