Outer Space pulls us all the time. How many secrets are hidden here. Where and how did it originate? How meteors fall in the night sky, why Halley's comet revolves around the sun once every 6 years. How many unknown secrets are hidden in the supernova. All of us are interested to know this.

Outer space

On a planet 50 light-years from Earth, members of a society more intelligent than us may be listening to Suchitra-Uttam's lost tune "Tumi Yeh Amar ..." with a special antenna at the moment! Surprising to think, but it is possible. Because, the scene of the song that we were thrilled to see at the Roopmahal Cinema Hall in 1984, has reached there in 50 years of endless waves of light.

How far is one light year? The distance that a light wave travels through a zero in a year is one light-year distance. Light travels about three million kilometers per second. In other words, light can revolve around the earth seven and a half times along the equator in one second. At this speed light travels a distance of nine and a half trillion kilometers a year. This number can be found by putting 11 zeros after 95. This is a light year.

To get an idea of this huge distance we can compare it with the distance to the sun. The sun is about 150 million kilometers away from the earth. It takes about eight minutes for sunlight to come. The distance of the sun from the earth in the cosmic unit is only eight light minutes. We can call its distance 32,000 times one light year. Proxima Centauri is the closest star to us after the sun, about four light-years away. The planets-stars-nebulae are so far away that cosmic distances have to be expressed with light years.

It takes about eight minutes for light to reach the earth from the Sun

Astronomers say that our universe began about fourteen billion years ago with the 'Big Bang'. Since then, the universe has been expanding. We have many questions about the Big Bang. Did this big bang happen in space? When we say that space is expanding, where is it happening? Does that mean there are more empty spaces outside of space? If not, where will it be expanded?

We will reach a point when we re-wind the cosmic evolutionary process to find out what was at the beginning of the Big Bang and go back to fourteen billion years ago. It can be seen that there is no such thing as space. For example, before inflating a balloon, rubbing a few drops of ink on it will look like a dot. Now when the balloon starts to inflate, those dots will gradually get bigger and move away from each other. Scientists say that the creation and development of nebulae, galaxies, stars, etc. in space is happening in this way.

Scientists continue to research these complex questions. Soul Perlmutter, Brian Schmidt and Adam Rees, who won the 2011 Physics Prize, were doing research on supernovae. They noticed that it would take longer than previously thought for a flash of light to come from a supernova exploding in the distance, and now the light was getting much lighter. From this they said, the universe is not only expanding, this expansion is happening at an accelerated pace.

A massive star explosion somewhere in the universe is called a supernova. This can result in radiation equal to one thousand suns of light. By researching this supernova, scientists are solving many mysteries in space.

Supernova

New stars are constantly being born in this space, on the other hand some stars are also dying. Stars are born from clouds of cosmic matter and gas stored somewhere in space. At first, these clouds begin to shrink under the influence of the gravitational force of the particles inside them. This causes extreme heat. Atomic reactions occur at temperatures in the tens of millions of degrees Celsius. This results in the birth of one molecule after another. In this process energy comes out. At this time, on the one hand, the cosmic cloud expands due to the effect of energy and on the other hand, the force of gravity wants to keep it within a range by pulling it. Once the balance is established. This is them. The hydrogen molecule inside the star burns into helium. Once all the fuel is exhausted, the star dies.

Space is a wonder. A lot of new information is coming out in the research of astronomers. It is very important to know all this. Because we want to put ourselves a little ahead.
