Germany has been selected as the best innovation country in the world by the latest innovation index of the internationally renowned media Bloomberg. This is the first time in the last six years that a country has overtaken South Korea to take the top spot.
A total of 60 countries were included in the index. In compiling the list, research, development costs, production capacity and the ability of government agencies to develop high quality technology were used as indicators of the index.
Germany ranks first with a positive rating on production and South Korea ranks second with a record low productivity. Singapore jumped from sixth to third place. Also, three Scandinavian countries have found a place in the top ten.
Japan's innovative ranking has dropped three steps (Japan is now in 12th place). The United States currently ranks ninth in the 2013 Bloomberg Innovation Index. China, the world's second-largest economy, is one step ahead of 15th.

10. France
France, the only country on the list, has not changed its position. Last time the country was at 10. The country ranks in the top ten due to its investment in corporate research and development and telecommunications infrastructure. The French education system was not considered for this index.

8. Denmark
The Scandinavian country Denmark is in the top ten of Bloomberg's innovation index. The country has also consistently topped the World Innovation Index. Denmark has taken major initiatives in capital, research, infrastructure and business development.
7. Finland
Finland has gone down four steps this year. The country, which was in the third place last year, has got seven places this time. While Finland scored well in all categories of the index, it was not enough to stay in the top three.
6. Israel
Israel, a military power in the Middle East, is one step behind last year. Despite lagging behind in productivity and efficient management of the index, the country was at the forefront in the continuity of research and development.
5. Sweden
Sweden, another Scandinavian country that was in the second place in 2018, has dropped to the fifth place this time. The country has consistently scored well in the manufacturing sector. Sweden has made strides in the technology sector in collaboration with US tech giant Spotify.
4. Switzerland
Switzerland has consistently maintained its position in the list of top 20 innovative countries in the world.
The country’s pharmaceutical giants Novartis and Hoffman-La Roche have spread worldwide. For this reason, it is not surprising that the country has a high standard of value-added production.
3. Singapore
Last year, Singapore achieved a high level in all indices. As a result, the country has risen from 6th to 3rd place in 2020. Increased productivity and improved value-added production have helped Singapore rise to the top.
2. South Korea
South Korea lost the first place by a small margin. The best technology based companies in the country are: Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motors and LG Electronics.
