Today is one of my best friends’ birthday. It is unfortunate that we couldn’t celebrate together because of the pandemic. As such, I’ve decided to just cherish one of the best memories we had together. One time in the past, we decided to go on a road trip in a whim. We ended up in Sagada, a quaint town situated atop the Cordillera Mountains. Despite being unplanned, this trip turned out to be one of the best decisions we made in our lives. The town, albeit small, was so peaceful and relatively untouched by the modern advances of today’s society. The air is cool and fresh, you wake up on the sounds of birds, and nature is everywhere. Blue Soil Hills is one of the many hidden gems within the province’s mountain ranges. We first took a hike to Kiltepan Peak to watch the sunrise then on our way down, we passed by Marlboro Hills before we reached Blue Soil Hills. As its name implies, the short stretch of rolling hills are colored blue. Our local guide says it is because of the copper content in the soil. I still have a lot to say about all the other places we visited when we went to Sagada but those are for another story.
