Note taking means writing down, in a compressed form, the selected facts or idea of a lecture or a text .For the student ,the work of taking note selectively, while listening to a lecture or reading a text is a valuable exercise. There may be several ways of note taking, and using them effectively fo examination purposes. One way is to take down as much as possible of the lecture or book. But this method entails one problem: lecture include a great deal of repetition and redundant materials, and when you come to revise detailed notes will offer little guidance as to what is important and what is not. Moreover, taking full notes will leaves you with little time to reflect on the content of the lecture and digest what he has heard.Another way is to take outline notes. This involves distinguishing between important and not-so-important points. The procedure also differs between taking notes from a book and from a lecture. In the former you glance quickly through the relevant section before coming back to study parts of it in greater detail and take notice. You work from the general outline to the detail. In lecture, you face the difficult task of selecting what is relevant because a general picture of the subject will emerge gradually as the lecture progresses:you work from detail to the general outline.Another point to remember is that you should avoid mother-tongue in your note taking process because it involves the translation of new and often difficult concepts, which is a special skill attained only by the most competent and experienced interpreters.Of course, a word or a phrase in the mother tongue sometimes provides a meaningful interpretation or clarification of a certain point .only in such a case ,mother tongue sometimes provides a meaningful interpretation or clarification of a certain point .Only in such a case ,mother - tongue can be used.
