Albert Einstein's is the most eminent scientist in the world in the postwar years.He is primarily known to every educated man /woman in the world for his general theory of relativity. He was a German-Swiss- U.S scientist. He was born on 14 March 1879 into Jewish family in Germany. He grew up in Munich. His family moved to Switzerland in 1894. In 1Ee902 he became a junior examiner at the swiss patent office. There he formulated theories which laid some foundation of the 20th century physics. He was awarded Ph.D. by University of Zurich in 1905.The same year he won international fame with the publication of important articles on physics, including his special theory of relativity. He became diractor of Berlin's kaiser Wilhelm Institute in 1914.He published his general theory Of relativity in 1915. It was confirmed experimentally during a solar eclipse in 1919.Though his work on relativity was still controversial, he received Nobel prize in 1921 for his work on the photo electronic effect.His theories of relativity and gravitation Instituted a profound advance over Newtonian physics and revolutionized scientific and philosophical enquiry. He resigned his position at the Prussian Academy when Adolf Hitler came to power.He then moved to princeton,New jersy,U.S.A.There he joined the Institute for advance study. He declined an offer to become the first prime Minister of Israel. He became a pacifist. He died on 18 April 1955 in Princeton, U.S.A.
