‘I just want to die’
The oldest person ever known aged 145 until he died in his village in Central Java.
According to his papers, Sodimedjo, also known as Mbah Ghoto was born in December 1870.
However, his age has been speculated to be false - the issue is that Indonesia only started recording births in 1900 - and there have been mistakes before.
Some speculate that he was just wimsy, but the officials tell the opposite.
He was taken to hospital on 12 April because of deteriorating health. Six days later he insisted on checking out to return home.
When asked about the secret of his longevity, Sodimedjo, told the reporter from BBC that patience was key and that he had “a loong life because I have people that love me looking after me”.
Before his death, he had outlived four wives, 10 siblings and all his children. He was a local hero, famous for telling great stories about the wars against Japan and Dutch colonisers.
May he rest in peace.
