My favorite book from childhood

Storybooks were our sure joy giver back then. We read them for two reasons, either because of the tone the teacher uses in reading it or the pictures. Pictures do fascinate learners to read more. It is a big yes in our case as it also fosters our understanding of English language speaking, constructing, spelling and pronunciation.

For the six years I used in primary school, several books were introduced to us with different characters, themes, and lessons.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.

My favorite book from childhood is a book we read when I was in primary four. It is titled "The Lion's  share"

The book is more of a play, the themes are friendly cooperation and betrayal. If I will recommend a childhood book I will be bold to prescribe this book, not alone of the graphical structure but the lesson it teaches young fellows.

African folktales majorly use animals like tortoises, monkeys, lions, and elephants among others.

The Lion's share

One day a lion, a wolf, a jackal, and a fox met in the jungle. All of them had decided to hunt together in the hope of catching bigger prey. The four of them set off towards a pasture where a herd of deer was grazing. There, they spotted a stag among the deers.

Together, the four animals chased the stag and surrounded the frightened creature. The stag could not fight long and soon the animal killed him. Being extremely hungry, they looked at the stag longingly. All were eager to start eating and would have done so, but just then the lion gave a terrific roar.

When the other looked at him, the lion suggested that they divide the stag into four parts - one for each of them. All the others agreed and set out to skin the animal and cut him up. Having decided the stag into four portions, they stood around gazing at the meat.

The lion stood over the meal and snarled. "This stag is completely mine because not only I am the king of beasts, but also the highest figure of authority. Besides, I was part of the chase. Is there anyone who would like to oppose my words and deny me the stag in full?"

The jackal, wolf, and fox were shocked to hear the Lion speaking thus. They felt cheated and grew angry. But no one dared to say anything. Quietly, they walked away and had gone quite a way before the fox dared to mutter, "You can never trust a cheat because he is always going to deceive you".

I want us to learn from the last statement "you can never trust a cheat because he is always going to deceive you". Let us be less dependent and reliant on people to avoid being deceived.

Thanks for your time 😘
