My favorite childhood game- hopscotch

Those days when we are young, we engage in one game or the other to break our boredom. As a reserved person I don't like playing games too much but a particular game cut my eye and I fell in love at first sight. At first I didn't understand the game plan and the steps but with time I became a guru.

This particular game has a lot of benefit from gaining strength to accuracy to fast thinking and right decision making. I can't just underestimate the quality I derive from the game. One other vaccinating thing is that other players serve as watchdog to the player playing.

Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a child's game, in which a player or more plays, hopping on one foot, drives a stone from one compartment to another of a figure traced or scotched on the ground. It has different shapes depending on the number of players.

Hopscotch is a popular playground game in which players toss small objects, called a lagger, into numbered triangles or a pattern of rectangles drawn on the ground and then hop or jump through the spaces and retrieve the object. It is a game that can be played with several players or alone.

Short history of hopscotch

Thousands of years ago, Romans soldiers tested their strength and speed with Hopscotch, they started with over 100 feets of hopping carrying heavy weight.

Today hopscotch is now played by children all over the world, it is known as a backyard game.

How to play hopscotch

Whether you play this game as a child or simply need a brushing up, you can easily learn to play this classic game along with some variations to make it more challenging.

  1. Draw a hopscotch design on the ground: chalk is the best drawing medium on asphalt. Draw a perfect square that your foot can easily fit in, and to make sure that a stone thrown to the square will not bounce out easily.

  2. Throw a flat Stone or similar object to land on square one: it has to land in the square perfectly and must not touch the border line or bounce back. If it doesn't fit inside the square, you lose your turn and pass the small stone to the next person. And if you throw well, then you move on to the next step.

  3. Hop through the square, skipping the one containing your flat Stone: a foot is for a square, you can't have more than one foot on a ground at once. Unless there are two squares next to each other, in that case you can relax your two feet on the two squares. Avoid touching the lines and jumping out of line. If you default any of these you lose and pass to the next person.

  4. Pick up your flat Stone on your way back: when you get to the last number on the square, turn around, remaining on one foot, and return back to the starting point. When you are on the square before the one containing your stone, lean down and pick it up. Then skip over that square and finish up.

  5. Pass the flat square to the next person: before passing it to the next person, if you're able to complete the first round you return to the starting point and aim for the second box and the next till you finish the same steps for the other square boxes. If you're unable to make the complete run at your first trail, then you pass to the next person. The first person to complete the process is the winner.

These are the steps involved in playing hopscotch. If you didn't play this game during your childhood days, you miss it a lot.
