The party's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that releasing BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from house arrest is now the number one urgent task.
Khaleda Zia's sentence was suspended for another six months by an executive order issued by the government on Tuesday evening. Afterwards, the BNP secretary general made this remark while participating in a virtual discussion meeting.
Mirza Fakhrul said, "What I think today is that there is a big crisis in the house of Khaleda Zia. She is the leader of democracy, for a long time she has fought for democracy, she has accepted sacrifices. The biggest need is to get him out. It's the number one job. "
"Our party's acting chairman Tareq Rahman is abroad. Democracy is needed more to bring him back to Bangladesh. Eliminating the false cases against millions of people is the number two urgent task. '
The BNP secretary general said, "The main thing is to create a national unity to bring back democracy." That unity must be created not only among the political parties but also among the people. I believe that the people of this country are always in favor of democracy. They have won by fighting against dictatorship. They have won the war of independence. They have succeeded in restoring their language rights and democracy. "
Mirza Fakhrul further said, "Insha Allah, they will still win this struggle of democracy, the struggle to liberate the society, if a united mass movement can be created." I believe we will be able to create that mass movement. '
On the eve of the polls, Mirza Fakhrul also spoke about the formation of the National Unity Front to create national unity and the participation of 20 parties in the Eleventh Parliamentary Elections.
During the discussion, JSD President ASM Abdur Rob said, "The government has crushed the foundations of the state by grouping all the state institutions." Everything is authoritarian, in the hands of one person, in the hands of one group. This is the state of the state, administration, parliament, election commission, army, judiciary. The government is taking the state to a dangerous situation to prolong its power.
Khalequzzaman, general secretary of the BSD, said, "There are no signs of democracy in Bangladesh now either through microscopes or binoculars." A group of people are migrating to Malaysia, Canada, Switzerland etc. with financial resources and people are crawling in the dust of imagination. Banks, stock markets, lands, rivers, forests, hills are all occupied and looted. Bureaucracy has turned into Kamalatantra. The police have won the title of law-breaking force.
Former MP and BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Jatiya Party (Qazi Jafar) president Mostafa Jamal Haider and convener of Citizens Unity Mahmudur Rahman Manna addressed the meeting.
