Badal Roy has stepped down on the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). He withdrew from the election due to physical illness. However, his application was not accepted as the letter was given much later than the scheduled time. That is why Badal Roy is the candidate in the BFF election.
However, Badal Roy apologized to the supporters for withdrawing from the election. At the same time, the former footballer of the national team called for a change in the leadership of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
In an interview with NTV Online, Badal Roy mentioned the reasons for his resignation:
Q: Why did you suddenly withdraw from the election?
Badal Roy: I stood in this election with many challenges. But due to physical illness and various reasons had to move at the last minute.
Q: What are the reasons, if you could say it openly?
Badal Roy: Everyone knows, I have protested about football all my life. I do research on football. I have been with football for the last 40 years. For those who love football, this election had a lot of expectations. We wanted the election to be postponed a bit. But he is not a human being. So he did not listen to us. I am affected by Corona, Aslam and many others. In such a situation he will choose. If he had looked at football a little, the football in the country would be better today. But he did not look at it and thought of his own interests.
Q: Have you fully recovered from the coronavirus?
Badal Roy: The body has become weak after being infected with corona. I have never been so weak before. I have become so weak because of this illness. Still sick.
Q: Is there any other reason to withdraw from the election?
Badal Roy: I have never supported any injustice in football. I have protested against any wrongdoing anywhere. This is what has become tomorrow for me. Over the years, a lot of money has come into football, which would not have come before. But when the money was wasted, I protested. In the end I tried to save football by going to fight. But in the end it did not happen.
Q: Do you have any opinion about the election and the rest of the candidates?
Badal Roy: I have always wanted a change of leadership in football. I would be very happy if Manik (another candidate for the post of president Shafiqul Islam Manik) is elected. Because change in leadership is needed. Salauddin is not qualified to lead. He has not been able to produce a single player in the last 12 years. In fact, he can not do anything good. As soon as his opponent came, he tactfully put him down. I don't think football is safe in Salauddin's hands. I request you to boycott Salauddin.
Q: Is there a call to supporters?
Badal Roy: I went to the polls to meet the expectations of the supporters. Got everyone's support. But I could not meet their expectations. Don't get me wrong. I stood in the election to reciprocate your love. But in the end I can't. But for various reasons I have decided to remove my name from this election. I stood with many challenges. You will all forgive me. I am the man you love, you will always love me.
