India now ranks second in the world in terms of identified patients. A total of 42 lakh 4 thousand 613 people have been identified in the country so far. India has so far killed 61,642 people, the third highest in the world.
All five states in India have the highest incidence of these infections.
While the country's government has begun to relax restrictions to keep the economy afloat, the rate of infection in the country has also begun to rise. Millions of people in India have been unemployed since the outbreak began last March.
The number of new patients in India has been increasing for the last seven days. About 75,000 new patients are being identified every day.
More than 80 per cent of the new patients came from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, the states with the highest population density.
The number of new patients has also increased in the capital Delhi. On Thursday alone, 2,700 new patients were identified in Delhi.
