The ACC has asked the High Court to stay the six-week anticipatory bail order granted to Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi, editor-in-chief of bdnews24.com, in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleging illegal acquisition of assets.

Earlier on August 28 in the case of the ACC Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice. The High Court bench of Mostafizur Rahman granted 7 weeks anticipatory bail to the bdnews24.com editor.

On the same day, Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi appeared in the High Court in the ACC case and applied for anticipatory bail.

On July 30, ACC deputy director Gulshan Anwar Pradhan filed a case against bdnews24.com editor-in-chief Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi at the ACC's integrated district office-1 for allegedly acquiring wealth through dishonest means.

According to the statement of case, in 2019, Imroz Khalidi illegally earned assets worth Tk 42 crore.

According to the case statement, Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi has deposited Rs 42 crore in various accounts of HSBC, Eastern Bank Limited, Southeast Bank Limited and Mutual Trust Bank Limited, which has no legal source.

It further said that this huge amount of money was obtained by Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi through fraudulently showing fake documents. Initially, it was proved by data. His income does not correspond to the known source of income and he has committed an offense under Section 26 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004 by keeping the movable property in his possession.

On November 26 last year, bdnews24.com editor Tawfiq Imroz Khalidi was summoned and interrogated for five hours at the ACC office on the issue of illegal acquisition of assets.
