State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, "As per the directives of the Prime Minister, 10,000 km of waterways will be implemented in the country." To this end, 53 rivers are being dug perfectly. And the waterways that are there are being dredged for river maintenance. '

The state minister said this while inspecting the Barisal-Chandpur-Dhaka waterway at noon on Saturday.

"The speed and nature of the river is changing again and again," he said. What I saw one day ago is changing the next day. We are working to maintain the safety of the people traveling on the waterways. That is why we are observing and inspecting the Bab Bar River. '

The state minister added, "We are dredging today, filling up again tomorrow. It does not depend on us. It depends on the speed and nature of the river. Now due to global warming the water level has risen and due to the construction of bridges over big rivers the amount of sediment has also increased in different places. Besides, various rivers are changing. This does not mean that the waterways are being closed. '

BIWTA Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq, Barisal Deputy Commissioner SM Aziar Rahman, Director of the Department of Maritime Safety and Traffic Management.
