Our souls are precious to the Lord and he wants all to be saved. Harriet Tubman was raised as a slave in Maryland. In 1849 she discovered she was actually born free, because her mother was technically free before her birth. Her mum’s owner had died and technically she was willed to no one; so she managed to escape. However, Harriet wasn’t satisfied with her own freedom except she freed other slaves. In spite of her illegal master promising to pay $40,000 to anyone who provides information leading to her recapture, she ignored the risk and made 19 return trips to the South and helped deliver at least 300 fellow slaves. She said; “I freed a thousand slaves; I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves”. Harriet Tubman’s story teaches two lessons. Firstly, we are saved to save others. Secondly, we hardly co-operate with God because we do not realise that we are slaves. We should be concerned about the souls of our fellow slaves who are still held by sin. We also need to be saved from our own slavery. Are you saved? Jesus says, “Go ye.” Are you going? Rescue others who are perishing
