Eucalyptus

This huge tree is native to Australia, used in Aboriginal medical practices for centuries.

The wonderfully scented Eucalyptus has many medicinal uses, it's also one of the most common, widely used plants in household items like toothpaste, essential oils, incense products and many more.

In its natural form, Eucalyptus is a plant with narrow leaves that bears tiny seeds the size of peppercorns. From which a huge tree can grow much bigger than meadows although they are not normally found in the same regions due to the level of heat or warmth needed to keep the Eucalyptus thriving. Once the Eucalyptus roots are established it rarely needs watering as the roots go so deep they get their water deep from the water table.

The forms one would most likely find Eucalyptus are dried Eucalyptus almost smashed, Eucalyptus oil extracts, which according to me is the best form depending on the oil base. Other forms include inscense- aromatic products.

The benefits of Eucalyptus are a lot.

From diabetes to muscle pain relief and aromatics, Eucalyptus is a perfect fit. When steamed in boiled water and inhaled or oils used in diffuser, Eucalyptus aids in easing pains of the respiratory tract be it irritations, asthma or other medical related respiratory ailments. Eucalyptus has healing properties to slowly sooth the discomfort away, it takes a bit of time but it's worth the while. With burns, cuts and insect bites one can use the Eucalyptus in its raw state, the leaves and the bark to treat the affected area. Back in the days they chewed it all together and used to stop bleeding and heal the wound. We do not recommend that, due to medical and law regulations but if you want to do it, why not?

For athletes and others who are prone to muscle pain and joint pains, Eucalyptus based muscle pains treatment gels are available at the local pharmaceuticals otherwise hanging Eucalyptus on top of the shower or in the water when bathing, helps sooth the pains away both from the joints and muscles. Moderated prolonged use will leave the body feeling revitalised, the skin rejuvenated and the whole system refreshed especially the respiratory tract. Eucalyptus baths also serve as parasite and bugs repellent while releasing stress, reducing fevers and stimulating the body functions.

Other uses include steaming, when coupled with boiled water and some rosemary, serves as a cooling a revitalising method of cleansing the body from the inside out. Eucalyptus has dental benefits too, from relieving mouth infections and nasal cavities irritations including the soothing of sinusitus, all while strengthening and cleaning the teeth as well as easing the blood flow in and around the gums when used carefully and in moderation.

As beneficial as Eucalyptus can be, without proper knowledge it can become poisonous in the case of ingestion, Eucalyptus should only be taken in very small doses or as advised by a qualified medical practitioner. If you are going to make Eucalyptus leaves tea, I'd advice putting in some honey for taste and ease to swallow.

Plus if you are growing a garden of the permaculture kind you might aswell include some Eucalyptus, with all these properties and more. Eucalyptus plays a big role in easing the destruction caused by parasites and unwanted insect invasions.
