But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. (NIV)
Many people feel anointed when a bottle of oil is poured on them. Some also feel anointed when a famous man of God lay hands on them to fall down. People also have the erroneous understanding that when you fast and pray more, God will reward you with the anointing of the Spirit. The anointing is not in an oil or from any man of God. The anointing is the Holy Spirit in the believer. It is God who anoints. Anointing is also not a reward for a religious act like many days of fasting.
Every person in Christ has the Holy Spirit in him. It is the Holy Spirit in you that makes you a Christian. Therefore, every man or woman in Christ is anointed. You became anointed the day you received Christ. Also, the anointing is not received in installment every time you fast and pray. The knowledge and consciousness of the anointing or unction you have will cause you to have utterance and demonstration of the Holy Spirit.
Never feel you are an ordinary person in Christ looking out for somebody to anoint you. You have the anointing from the Holy One. This anointing is not from man but from God who gave you the Holy Spirit.
Fasting and prayers are still necessary because they enable you to become conscious and sensitive to the anointing but they do not make you anointed.
