Being an example
2nd Corinthians 2:14
Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
The bible also taught us to live by example.
1st Timothy 4:12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1st Corinthians 11:1
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
1st Timothy 3:2
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
He talked about the bishop being an example of the flock.
The bible never taught us to be examples to the unbeliever. An example means something you can copy or emulate.
The bible lets us know that the world did not know us because they did not know him.
1st John 3:1
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
The world does not know God, and we are not to be an example to them.
As a Christian, you don’t live any how
2nd Corinthians 6:1
We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
Vs 2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
You should not have the ministry blamed by your conduct.
Philippians 3:17
Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
Vs18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
The term, ‘enemies of the cross’ talks about people who exchange the word of God for personal things.
The bible never told you to be an example to unbeliever.
Philippians 2:15
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Every time you hear about light and shining the light, he is talking about the Word. We are not told to be an example to someone who has not believed.
We are also told not to be an offence/enemy to the cross.
We are only instructed to be an example to the believers, not unbelievers.
2nd Corinthians 6:3
Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:
Vs 4
But in all [things] approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,
Vs 5
In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;
Vs 6
By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,
Vs 7
By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
Vs 8
By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and [yet] true;
Vs 9
As unknown, and [yet] well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;
Vs 10
As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and [yet] possessing all things.
People have a different opinion about someone who preaches the Gospel. Some try to make themselves acceptable to those people, in doing that, you are standing against the message,
You are not the message; never get yourself to the position where you become the message. Your experiences are not the message.
2nd Corinthians 4:5
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake
Vs 6
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
We preach not ourselves. Not your experiences, but Jesus. You are a servant; a messenger. You don’t send your messenger with a message and he speaks what he wants. No, he is to say exactly what he was sent to say.
This means that you don’t need any experiences to preach the gospel.
No need to talk about your bruised, battered, or jobless life before.
Anyone who has believed is a new creation; Jesus is the saviour from sin, not from things. The message is Christ.
You must be careful of presenting a false gospel; preaching something else and not Christ. You must talk about Jesus’ experiences, not your own experience.
What was Jesus experience? He died, he rose, and he sat down at the right hand of the Father.
The gospel is about Jesus, not you. Our testimony ought to be Jesus Christ. We must always present Christ.
Confession:
I live not for the world, but for Christ, My message is Christ, not me or my experiences. I preach nothing but Christ alone
