Does your major or career interest fall into the social sciences, arts and humanities, education/training and development, science and math, or technical courses?
My major career interest fall into technical courses because in our course, we focuses on learning through trial and error, replication, and designing. In our course, we are more in calculations which falls under mathematics, seems like the technicality of our course did not appear yet for us but maybe in the near upcoming second semester. We will be having a CAD subject which we will learn how to design and plan infrastructures. Not all the students have a perfect initial project that’s why we will surely be having a huge time with trial and error and computations. After all of this, we will be translating the technical information involved in those process into lay terms.
b. Which strategies or speaking in that area have you already witnessed among your professors or classmates?
My instructor in the subject STS is a good communicator, her name is Christine May Reyman. She speak with us in a way that we will understand what she is talking about. She always use words that will relate us or our course for us to easily decode what she meant to say. In our classmate, I’ve learned some way of speaking from Christian Magno, He is a really funny communicator that can made you realized things with some jokes or funny sarcasm. Professor Fidel Carinan also teaching us how to pronounce and say word formally and right, He help when he notices that there is something wrong with the way we speak.
C. Which strategies do you think will be most helpful for you to learn/improve on?
The need for the public speaking skills, this will not only boost my skills in speaking but also my self-esteem. I believe that public speaking is great step to get out with your comfort zone. For a student like me, I’m not that confident when speaking in front of crowds that’s why I lose the track in what I am saying or speaking about and then the whole speech will be ruined. Public speaking is a great practice for us to gain some confident and made some influence to people we will reach. Public speaking extends beyond this classroom and to the other parts of academia but it will always vary based on our discipline.
D. Which are you already doing well on?
I think I am doing well with almost everything but nothing still perfect, I don’t have a specific specialty. For example, I’m good in public speaking but sometimes I commit some wrong move while doing a public speaking. It’s hard for me to execute topics that will not relate me personally, academically, and my beliefs.
Reaction/ comment in your career path now as a student
My career path as a student with a goal of being an engineer is really adventurous specially having a pandemic. We are now undergoing Online classes and it is really hard especially students who doesn’t have a good internet connection, it is really hard for them to connect with us. It is sad to enroll then drop, I have classmates who have a 10 absent already and it is only half way of our first year college. I think my first step to my career path in my first year college is not that effective because students could cheat exam and modules, but our instructor have a great passion so they could execute our class effectively and amazing. It’s not that worth to enroll with this type of learning platform but it is quite effective and time-friendly because if I choose to stop and then wait for the face to face program, I will be late with the demand of time. Academic topics is complex and it will improve as time goes by, what I meant is for example grade 7 students nowadays have more hard topics than what we have learned when we are grade 7. It’s really amazing when I am talking to my younger sisters who are in grade 8 and grade 7 under BEP curriculum in Jackson, there are things that new to me but basic for them. Amazingly, my path getting better and better because I have my reliable classmates and instructor, and I almost have my time under controlled because time in supposed to be travel time in face to face class could use for modules. As a student, I choose this path to learn new things and later on became successful in my chosen field. Soon I will be have much more adventurous experiences and I am looking forward for it.
