There have been a growing ruckus in some (maybe the whole) community of gaming because of the word "gamer". They argued who is the real gamer and what are the parameters so that an individual will be called a "real gamer." So the arguments revolve around the question, " What is a Gamer?."
I found a lot of definitions of the word "gamer" in the net such as below:
✓A gamer (sometimes also called player or electronic athlete and eathlete) is a person who plays interactive games, especially video games, tabletop role-playing games, and skill-based card games, and who plays for usually long periods of time(wikipedia.org).
✓A gamer a person who plays games
especially : a person who regularly plays computer or video games(merriam-webster.com).
✓A gamer is a hobbyist or individual that enjoys playing various types of digital or online games. Generally, a gamer refers to any kind of gaming enthusiast, but when used in IT, the term refers to those that utilize a full range of electronic or digital games(techopedia.com).
And many more. Basically, if we are going to sum it up, gamer is someone who played video games. So based on the given definitions, a 6 years old boy played a tetris will be considered a gamer then. Is it correct? Maybe, that boy might be called a casual gamer.
I think, the real argument here is that the distinctions among gamers. There are those hard-core gamers who played every games whether it is on a console, pc ,or mobile and played almost new releases. There are those who are playing games casually on their mobile(like me).
Superiority must not be a question here. If you enjoy the game, then so be it. A real gamer for me is that an individual who knows how to appreciate games and respect the preference of others.
