"A good leader must be a good follower."

Where did I hear or read this qoute? I can't remember. Its suddenly pop up in my head while thinking about this article.

Let's talk about how to be a good leader. What characteristics or qualities should a leader need to possess to be considered good?

Leadership is the ability on an idividual to lead, inspire and guide to transform other individuals, groups, organization, community, and country for a good cause. Leader is someone who leads and take action for the change of others.

Leadership first established at home, where our parents are the leaders that help us to be organize, to have unity, and to help one another. They set rules to make the household peace and harmony.

One thing is for sure, Leaders are absolutely important.

What makes a good leader?

A good leader is one who is capable of making decisions, determined to work for the betterment, has the willingness to manage and rectify issues and most importantly, stand what is right.

A good leader must be responsible. Responsibility is of most the most qualities of a good leader. A good leader should acknowledge others opinions and accepts someone and their own faults, failures and mistakes. A good leader shouldn't point fingers to others and should take the responsibility instead of blaming others.

A good leader should be honest. As what saying says, "Honesty is the best Policy." a good leader should set an example to be honest. Mistakes is inevitable, and everyone made their own mistakes. Accepting and admitting mistakes is a sign of honesty.

A good leader should be a trustworthy. Trust is the most fragile emotion that every individual possessed. Once trust is broken, it can never fix nor restore. It will become damaged forever. People choose their leader because they trust them. Leaders should show that they are trustworthy not just at the beginning but until the end.

Qualities of a Good Leader

  1. Must be capable of making tough and brave decisions.

  2. Should have the courage to stand up and say what needs to be said rather than tell what people like.

  3. Should work for people's well-being rather than fighting for their better political positions.

  4. Must listen to other people and represents them faithfully.

  5. Should be loyal to the people.

  6. Should be humble and down-to-earth.

  7. Should have no biases. Treat people equally.

Those are the said qualities that should a good leader need to possesed.

So here is the story...

Covid-19 pandemic affects the entire world. The World Health Organization together with the Government reminding everyone to strictly follow the health protocol to stop the spread of Covid-19 virus that kills more than millions of lives. Every country down to its community must be aware how dangerous this virus is. Everyone MUST follow and ABIDE the rules and regulations.

In some provinces, cases isn't that higher that in the city. Although provinces are following the rules, still its not as strict as in the city.

Last month, I think, our barangay announced that every constituents should wear face mask when going outside their houses. Children and elders are not allowed to go out too. When seen without wearing face mask, a penalty with a fine is being issued to you, when proven. Everyone followed. BUT, when I was sitting in our balcony, I saw our barangay captain riding his motorcycle together with his son, WITHOUT face mask, and take note, his son is only 3 years old. He do it most of the times. Some people when saw him multiple times without wearing face mask, they followed and copied him. They don't wear their masks too. They're just said that "Why do we need to wear mask when our leader isn't wearing it too?"

We are neighbors with our barangay captain. We saw him before he left for work.

Curfew is being implemented too for minors under 17 years old, and they need to go home before 10 pm. Some of my brothers friends visit our home to play Mobile Legends and post in noise cash. They went home before 10pm because they also aware of the curfews. In the morning our barangay captain saw them already but he never cared, but during evening when they still there and he saw them, he will send them home saying its curfew already. Only when he's drunk he can act tough. My brother tested him once in the morning when he isn't drunk. They tried if our captain will say anything to them, but when he passed by, he can't even looked at their eyes and he act that they are invisible. And during night and he was drunk again, he sent them away telling that he will capture and prison them if they won't go home.

Here is another thing, not covid related. He walked passed our house early in the morning. My mother who lived in the mountain went down to get some water to drink. Our barangay captain called her and said that we should clean and sweep our yards. Our yards isn't that big so we can easily clean it without sweat. We cleaned early in the morning, and sometimes in the afternoon because of the leaves that fall from the tree and carried by the wind that landed in our yard. Cleaning our yard is a must so he don't need to remind us and even my mother. My mother answered him yes and we are cleaning it everyday. During that time we're still asleep so we haven't sweep the leaves yet.

Before, the garbage collector always collecting our garbage, but after that incident, they refused to collect it. My mother asked one of the garbage collector and he confessed that it was our barangay captains command, not to collect our garbages.

Another thing, the automobile of the barangay should use for barangay purposed only, right? But it was made as a service of his son when buying food for dinner. The "tanod" or the barangay police is the one driving it.

Upon knowing his actions and behaviours, all I do is to slapped my palm in my forehead. Why is he like that? That not the act of a good leader.

At first he's going his job, as a leader, well. I guess that's the action of every politician. The beginning was an act thag they're doing their job properly and act like a good leader and eventually after a year they change. And every Filipino I guess know and understand what I am talking about.

Oh why Captain, why??

Thank you for reading.
