A new type of bacteria has spread to northwestern China. In the meantime, more than 3,000 people have been infected with the brucellosis bacterium.
The outbreak of brucellosis in China's Liaoning province has been blamed on a gas leak at a Lanzhou biopharmaceutical factory. People are at risk of becoming infected if they come in contact with infected animals.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says brucellosis is also known as Malta or Mediterranean fever. It is mainly transmitted from animals to humans. Symptoms of this disease include headache, muscle aches, fever and fatigue. The company also said that the bacteria is transmitted through inhalation.
Health authorities in the city of Lanzhou in Gansu Province say 3,245 people have been diagnosed with brucellosis. Its presence has been initially detected in another 1,401 people. However, no death has been reported yet.
To check the situation, more than 21,000 people out of 29 lakh residents of the area have been examined.
Earlier, in December 2019, a deadly coronavirus spread from the city of Wuhan in China's Hubei province. Although this powerful virus has spread from the local market there or from the secret laboratories of China to the world, it is still in the dark.
More than 950,000 people have died from Covid-19 so far. The number of infections has also crossed three crore.
