SINULOG FESTIVAL IN THE HONOR OF HOLY NIÑO
Sinulog is one, otherwise, the
biggest celebration to look forward to not only
of the Cebuanos but all the devotees of Señor
Santo Niño.
The Sinulog Festival is held annually on
third week of January as a tribute
in the miraculous image of Sto. Niño and lasts
of nine days. And is often popular
this festival in Cebu City.
The word Sinulog comes from Cebuanong pang
abay na sulog, which means “like water
current movement ”describing the reluctance
movement of Sinulog dance.
Did you know that on April 7, 1521, it was over
Ferdinand Magellan's ship arrived in Cebu
he showed the image of the young Jesus, the
Santo Niño, as a baptismal gift to Hara Amihan,
wife of Raja Humabon.
Including island leaders and the other 800
who was there baptized by Christianity. Sa
receiving it in the image, it is said to be Queen Juana
will dance with joy holding the image of the child
Jesus. Because the locals followed him,
this moment is considered the very first
Sinulog
The festival consists of a very long parade
with different groups of dancers with
colorful costumes and riding on seven floats
which symbolizes the seven different periods of
history of Cebu.

Atihan Festival of Panay Island, it is being danced

While dancing, people shout “Viva! Pit Señor! Señor Santo Niño, Manoy Kiloy ”as a thank you and request for their requests. Shouting is necessary because people want to make sure that Santo Niño can hear them.
The festival started on January 9 this year. Every day there is a mass taking place until January 20 thanksgiving day.
The word Sinulog comes from the Cebuano word which means, "like the flow of water." It refers to the relentless skipping of the Sinulog dance. Dancers often dance forward and backward at the same time as the drum.
Cebu City, Cebu is on fire every January due to the Sinulog celebration. Like Ati-atihan, the Sinulog is characterized by the sacred image of Santo Niño, and with the melody of “Pit Señor! Hala, Bira! ” the whole city will be shaken by the drums, the applause, and the shouts. The Sinulog consists of a month-long commemoration of the beloved patron of the Cebuanos, and includes the Sinulog Bazaar, the Sinulog contest, the arts and cultural performance, processions, the parade on the Mactan River, the Queen of the Sinulog, and the colorful rockets exploding in the air.

SELF-CONCLUSION:
As a student of the UNIVERSITY OF CEBU I can say that it is really beautiful, colorful and very fun to celebrate SINULOG SA CEBU. This is also my long-awaited celebration because for me I will soon forget my assignments and we will not be busy on the day of the sinulog celebration. Sinulog is also a way to thank our patron the young JESUS for the blessings people receive in cebu and the abundant life they are experiencing.l
