Forms of Media
1. Print Media
2. Moving Image
3. Still Image
4. Audio
5. Digital / Internet
Print Media
*It uses paper and ink that is
reproduced through a printing
process (Wilson et al., 2011).
Products of these are
newspapers, posters, magazines,
journals, and books.
Moving Image
It pertains to films
and television.
Still Image
lt pertains to
photography.
Audio
An example is the radio, where our primary means of
getting information is through the use of our sense of
hearing. Radio stimulates the imagination of its
listeners since there are no visuals to fulfill the
graphic presentation of information and
entertainment (Naldo, 2016).
Digital Internet
Lastly, when data is stored in a digital form, such as
digital audio, digital video, we call that digital media.
Here, we use electronic device to access or share
these types of content. Examples of digital media are
social media, video games, other websites, and apps
(Wilson et al, 2011).
Note that television
and radio are
sometimes classified
under one form of
media which is called
broadcast media.
Based on the various forms of
media that you know now,
have you noticed any changes
in the way we access and use
media?
You are right! Media
went through changes
and development.
Before the advent of digital
media, we have what we called
traditional media such as print
media, television, and radio.
These were widely subscribeed
to by our parents and
grandparents.
They access information through
these means. And the transfer of
information and communication is
one-way. There is no exchange of
information from the sender of
information to the receiver of
information. There is also no
required active participation from
the receiver.
But now, with the advent
of internet, the access to
information is a lot easier
and faster at this digital
age. Aside from that, the
transfer of information a
and communication is
now two-way compared
to traditional media.
Consumers nowadays
have the power to
interact with the media
and can provide feedback
too. These can all be done
at the tip of our fingers.
We call this interactive media, a
method of communication in which
the program's outputs depend on
the user's inputs, and the user's
inputs then affect the program's
outputs (Dhir, 2020). Examples of
interactive media are social
networking sites,
videoconterencing, and video
games.
