Do you eat Ampalaya (Bitter Gourd)? Well. Any bitter taste of it causes good benefits to our body.

Ampalaya is often a cooking ingredient. But did you know that it is also an herbal medicine. It is dried and then powdered. Sometimes powdered ampalaya is mixed with other herbs to better cure diseases. Herbologists have tried Ampalaya to treat diseases such as indigestion, malaria, abdominal pain, and even diabetes.

Benefits of Ampalaya (Bitter Gourd)

Improves blood flow. It contains potassium, iron, phosphorus, beta carotene, folic acid, calcium, and even Vitamins A, B and C.

Ampalaya is a cure for diabetes 1 and 2.

Ampalaya seeds, on the other hand, are good for skin irritation such as wounds and rashes. Ampalaya can be made into a topical ointment.

Ampalaya is also good for coughs and colds.

Ampalaya juice can cure stomach ailments such as diarrhea, chronic colitis, dysentery, and intestinal parasites.

Ampalaya (Bitter Melon or Bitter Gourd) with the scientific name Momordica charantia is one of the 10 medicinal plants recognized by the Department of Health (DOH - Department of Health) of the Philippines, rich in vitamins A, B and C, folic acid, calcium, phosphorous and iron. As the name suggests in English it has a bitter taste due to its Momordica properties. It has been used medicinally since the ancestors of many generations and has been proven effective by some studies and researches around the world. It is known to cure many ailments but one of its most significant uses is Diabetes. It helps to create the insulin of Insulin which controls blood sugar due to its content of flavanoids and alkaloids. In addition to the well-known cure for diabetes and liver problems it is also used as an anti-HIV drug.

Ampalaya is an antioxidant and is also known to fight bacteria, antipyretics, parasiticides and it also helps supplement the immune system to fight infection.

Used as a remedy for the following:

Diabetes

Liver problems

Rayuma

Gota

Diarrhea

Headache

Helps cleanse and heal wounds and burns

Cough

Fever

Worms in the stomach

Helps prevent some types of cancer.

Preparation:

The Department of Health (DOH - Department of Health) of the Philippines has a suggested method of how to prepare Ampalaya juice.

Wash and cut the leaves into small pieces.

Mix six tablespoons of sliced โ€‹โ€‹leaves in two glasses of water or 2 glasses of sliced โ€‹โ€‹leaves in 4 glasses of water.

Boil the mixture for 15 minutes in an uncovered casserole.

Let it cool and strain.

Drink 1/3 cup of solution 30 minutes before meals, three times a day.

Ampalaya talbos can also be steamed and eaten (1/2 cup, 2 times a day)

If used for purging, give it plenty to drink.

To apply to wounds, skin ailments and burns, heat the leaf and apply to the affected area.
