A 25-year-old employee who was trapped inside a burning warehouse died on Saturday morning in Las Piñas City.
The victim was identified as Jolie Anne Banday, a chat support customer service employee of Lazada.
Gutted by the fire was the warehouse located along Marcos Alvarez corner San Antonio St., Talon 5, Las Piñas City and also being used as storage for paints. The warehouse is a partner drop off point for products purchased on the Lazada platform.
Police said the fire started at about 7:56 a.m. and was placed under control at about 1:04 p.m.
The warehouse, reportedly owned by barangay chairman Josie Bumanlag, and being rented by Janlanzer Decipida, 30, of 261 San Gregorio St, Metrocor Homes Barangay Talon 5, Las Piñas, was being used as a Lazada warehouse and also as a storage area for paints.
Reports showed that the fire started at the first floor of the Lazada storage room and immediately spread to the second floor.
Firefighters experienced difficulty in putting out the fire due to the narrow street leading to the warehouse.
Reports also showed that the warehouse is part of a commercial block with a residential area at the back.
A hardware store also located in the commercial block was partially damaged by the fire.
Bureau of Fire and Protection arson investigator said Decipida could not determine yet the damage to property caused by the fire.
