Because Sonic: The Movie 2 is so close, it's worth taking a look back and assessing the components that made the first film such a smash hit on all fronts. Of course, the original terrible blue hedgehog design, which was mercifully removed after fan backlash, is unavoidable.

Actors Ben Schwartz (Sonic) and James Marsden (Tom) discussed the furry character's original concept and their reaction to the internet backlash in a recent interview with the NME portal.

SONIC'S DESIGN MODIFICATION WAS A HUGE SUCCESS.

While it was a world he wasn't familiar with, James Marsden says the initial reaction from fans didn't bother him. He notes that they took advantage of the unfavorable scenario and converted it into something positive, as well as sending the message that the filmmakers were paying attention to the community's feedback.

"It's understandable that you want to tell your own tale and surprise people. You can't just listen to everyone and let [the fans] run the show; you have to stick to your guns and convey the tale you want to tell. The design, on the other hand, was quite specific and significant. Jeff Fowler, the director, came out and said, 'We're listening to you, we're listening to you, and we're going to make improvements.' I thought that was incredible. "I believe that was unparalleled," James Marsden stated.

In case you missed it, here's a reminder: Jim Carrey is seriously considering retiring from performing after saying, "I've done enough."

Finally, the actor who plays Tom Wachowski adds that the fans were correct in their request for a change, and that they simply wanted to do things correctly so that people would enjoy the character.

Changing Sonic's design was unquestionably a huge success. The first picture was a box office smash and, even more surprise, garnered rave reviews from critics and fans. As a result, it's not surprise that Paramount Pictures has approved the creation of a sequel, which will be released in theaters on April 2.
