It was prepared according to strict buyer's instructions and aged for 5 years.

Spanish producer Sierra Mayor Jabugo has sold a 10kg piece of traditional Iberian ham for an incredible price of 12,000 euros, UPI reports.

The Iberian jamon comes from Iberian pigs that only live in Spain. They are grown only in four regions of the country: Ecopark Deesa, Pedroce and Jabugo in Andalusia, and Guijuelo in Salamanca.

Julio Revilla, President of Sierra Mayor Jabugo, said the record-breaking jamon was prepared according to strict buyer's instructions. He asked that the ham be obtained from an Iberian pig at least two years old, which had grazed in the Sierra Major for at least 100 days.

The animal had to gain at least 100 kg during the time it spent in the pasture. The pig's diet was supposed to consist only of acorns and herbs. The ham was aged for five years, which is twice the usual time for a first grade ham.

Jamon was featured on the Japanese television show Fair Price and was awarded a Guinness World Record certificate for the world's most expensive piece of ham.
